'Rango' & 'Rio' Super Bowl TV Spots

Rango and Rio movie trailers

Everyone tunes in for the Super Bowl but it's a wide known fact that many are more interested in the top-notch advertisements that play during the very profitable commercial breaks. Super Bowl XLV sees an astonishing number of TV spots dedicated to the biggest films of 2011 and several of them focus on the animated side of the business.

Two of the TV spots airing during the big game focus in on Paramount Pictures' Rango and Twentieth Century Fox's Rio.

Rango is written by John Logan and directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean 1-3) and stars Johnny Depp as the title character. Supporting cast members are voiced by Timothy Olyphant, Abigail Breslin, Isla Fisher, Bill Nighy, Alfred Molina and Ray Winstone.

Rio is written by Don Rhymer and directed by Carlos Saldanha (Ice Age 1-3) and features a voice cast which includes Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Jemaine Clement, Jamie Fox and Leslie Mann.

The popularity of talent aside, the animation and visuals behind Rango are infinitely superior to Rio, but what really sells me on that film of it are the unique story and visuals. Rio on the other hand, feels far too similar to Madagascar with the same slapstick corny comedy of Ice Age, making it seemingly just more of the same.

Which animated feature are you more excited for?
