It’s set in the Centennial State, but where was The Ranch actually filmed? Netflix sitcom The Ranch aired for four seasons between 2016 and 2020 and focused on a lovably dysfunctional family of cattle ranchers living in Colorado. The sitcom reunited That ‘70s Show co-stars Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson who play brothers Colt Bennett - a former semi-pro football player who returns to his hometown after a 15-year absence - and Jameson “Rooster” Bennett”, the older sibling who stayed behind to work on the family ranch.

The patriarch and matriarch of the Bennett family in The Ranch are played by a pair of veteran actors who boast a total of four Academy Award nominations between them, with Sam Elliott playing curmudgeonly rancher father Beau and Debra Winger playing his ex-wife Maggie – a laidback, pot-smoking hippie who owns a local bar. Elisha Cuthbert also stars as Colt’s high school sweetheart and eventual wife Abby, while other That ‘70s Show actors including Wilmer Valderrama, Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith had recurring roles in The Ranch cast too.

The sitcom concluded its four-season run on Netflix in early 2020, with Danny Masterson being fired from the show during the third season after the actor was accused of sexual assault, with the character of Rooster being written off the series. Dax Shepard later joined as a new character named Luke to add a new dynamic to the cast. Fans of the series may wonder where The Ranch was shot, so read on to learn more.

The Bennett clan resides on the fictional Iron River Ranch which is located close to Garrison, Colorado, a fictional small town supposedly located in the Western Slope region of the state. In reality, however, The Ranch is filmed in front of a live audience on a sound stage at the Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, California. To be more specific, The Ranch is shot on Stage 19, a sound stage where episodes of hit shows including The West Wing have also been filmed in the past, alongside scenes from movies like Tom Cruise vehicle The Last Samurai.

Plenty of real Colorado locations are name-dropped in The Ranch though like Denver, Telluride, Norwood and Grand Junction while the opening credits of the series feature scenes of the picturesque small town of Ouray. Eagle-eyed Coloradoans may also recognize that the exterior shots of the bar that Debra Winger’s Maggie owns in The Ranch are actually of the former 141 Saloon in Naturita, Colorado.
