Dwayne Johnson Battles a Flying Wolf in New Rampage Trailer

The second official trailer for Rampage is now online. While Warner Bros. Pictures continues to push forward with more DC films, they are also dedicating quite a bit of their time and money to bringing new video game movies onto the big screen as well. Roar Uthaug's Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, is the first movie of this new initiative to hit screens this March, with Brad Peyton's Rampage coming about one month later in April.

Based on the 1980s arcade video game of the same name, Rampage stars Dwayne Johnson as primatologist Davis Okoye, Naomie Harris as genetic engineer Dr. Kate Caldwell, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as OGA Agent Russell, along with Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, and many more. The film follows Okoye as he attempts to save his friend, George, a gorilla who has grown in immense size (due to exposure to a genetic compound) along with a wolf and a crocodile - just as was the case with the original '80s game. WB debuted Rampage's first trailer back in mid-November ahead of the holiday season, and now they've released the second theatrical trailer going ahead of the long holiday weekend.

Warner Bros. Pictures released the second theatrical trailer for Rampage today, which means the trailer will likely play ahead of this weekend's Black Panther - one of the biggest comic book movie releases of the year. Black Panther is expected to draw in millions of families, which is a prime demographic for the upcoming Rampage adaptation. You can watch the trailer in the section above.

Rampage was slated to go up against Julius Onah and Bad Robot's The Cloverfield Paradox before Paramount Pictures sold off the film's global distribution rights to Netflix in late January/early February. At the moment, Rampage will open opposite Jay Chandrasekhar's Super Troopers 2, but considering that both movies cater to different crowds, they shouldn't eat into each other's ticket sales all too much. With that in mind, Rampage will be the only blockbuster film in theaters around that time until Anthony and Joe Russo's Avengers: Infinity War hits screens two weeks later.

This will be Johnson's first movie since Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle released this past December, and it will be interesting to see if the actor can strike lightning in a bottle again with Rampage. Jumanji is currently Sony's third highest-grossing release of all-time at the worldwide box office, and it's on the verge of becoming its second highest-grossing release. Rampage just might break the mold for video game movies and do the same.
