Starting tomorrow, August 3, Rainbow Six Siege will host a limited-time PvE event named Containment, which takes inspiration from the franchise's next entry, Rainbow Six Extraction. Such an event will bring things full circle for the brand, considering the Outbreak content from Siege's Operation Chimera expansion heavily influenced the creation of the latest installment.

Rainbow Six Extraction resurfaced during Ubisoft's UbiForward E3 2021 presentation after a rather lengthy bout of silence. Notably, the Siege spinoff assumes the form of a tactical first-person shooter that allows one to three players to defend themselves against alien threats, a defense players will be able to mount with 18 different Rainbow Six Operators at their disposal. A few Operators from Siege are set to join the fight, too, including the likes of Hibana and Nomad; yet, this doesn't count as the only way Ubisoft aims to further expand upon the connection shared by the two Rainbow Six titles.

From August 3 to August 24, Rainbow Six Siege users can participate in a limited-time PvE event, Containment. Dropped into an overhauled version of the Consulate map, those who play Containment will come face-to-face with the Chimera Parasite in an all-new Nest Destruction mode. A press release from Ubisoft bills the event as a "tease into the world of Extraction," one wherein REACT agents (Attackers) must destroy Nests while fending off a group of Proteans (Defenders). Interestingly, the latter has the distinct ability to mimic the form and behavior of REACT agents, though such a process only allows the Proteans to employ maximum speed and melee attacks. Containment will additionally introduce 33 unique items for the featured Rainbow Six Operators - Ace, Amaru, Blackbeard, IQ, and Zero play on the attacking side, while Aruni, Jager, Kaid, Mira, and Warden lend their skills to the side of the defenders.

Since the forthcoming in-game event will offer a taste of Rainbow Six Extraction, Containment could provide a good way for players to measure their interest in the new title. After all, Extraction marks quite the departure from Rainbow Six adventures of the past, introducing a sci-fi slant to a series that's long leaned heavily into more grounded qualities. It stands to reason, then, that next year's installment may not appeal to everyone.

Originally scheduled for a mid-September release, Ubisoft recently pushed Rainbow Six Extraction out of 2021. The project will now hit PC and consoles on an unspecified date in January 2022, giving the development crew extra time to fully realize its vision for the cooperative experience.
