Board games creator Mythic Games has launched a Kickstarter for 6: Siege - The Board Game, a new project based on Rainbow Six: Siege that is slated to ship sometime in June 2022. Rainbow Six: Siege's redemption arc remains among the most fascinating in recent memory. The title released in a poor state in 2015, leaving many to wonder if it was dead on arrival. By 2019, however, Siege had accumulated 50 million players; the tactical shooter eclipsed 70 million users this past February.

Thus, Rainbow Six as a series is in superb health, with another new entry set to touch down in September 2021. Rainbow Six: Extraction aims to take the Tom Clancy-branded property in a brand-new direction, one marked by an evolving alien threat. But fans who aren't interested in this particular angle need not worry too much, considering Ubisoft's plan to continue supporting Rainbow Six: Siege for quite some time. At E3 2021, for instance, the French publisher divulged that cross-platform play will hit PlayStation and Xbox platforms in early 2022. Now Siege fans have something else to look forward to in the future.

Today, June 22, Mythic Games launched a Kickstarter for Rainbow Six: Siege's tabletop game, 6: Siege - The Board Game. The campaign has already blown past its funding goal of $100,000; as of writing, approximately 3,500 backers have pledged nearly $500,000 of support. On Friday, July 2 at 4:00 PM PDT, the Kickstarter campaign comes to a close, then Mythic Games will set about ensuring it can deliver the project as intended in June 2022. The board game's "core box" should boast 20 32mm-scaled mini Siege Operators, such as Castle, Fuse, IQ, Jäger, and Thermite. One double-sided board, four armor panel standees, two gas overlays, 15 cardboard obstacles, and much more also fill out the package. Plus, Year 1 - 5 expansions are on the docket, along with two separate map packs priced at $19 apiece.

With 6: Siege - The Board Game, Mythic Games aims to provide a "fast-paced asymmetrical" experience, wherein players stand on the side of the Attackers or Defenders. To successfully complete mission objectives, players must tactically coordinate their squad of Operators. Some Operators will prove more useful than others on certain maps; thus, akin to Rainbow Six: Siege itself, Operator selection will serve as a crucial step.

Given how quickly 6: Siege - The Board Game eclipsed its funding goal, it's clear to see that fans are excited for a new way to experience Rainbow Six's tactical mechanics. How the tabletop game will appeal to players once the full release becomes available remains to be seen, though.

Rainbow Six: Siege originally hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2015. Regular content updates have kept the live-service going for several years, of course. And free next-gen upgrades went live in December 2020, offering PS5 and Xbox Series X|S users boosted frame rates and enhanced resolution options.
