Rainbow Six Extraction developer Ubisoft recently revealed its post-launch roadmap for the upcoming game, which includes an array of challenge modes. The upcoming game was first revealed in 2019 as Rainbow Six Quarantine - but it’s name changed following the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the connotations the old name may now invoke. This past July, a September 2021 release date was originally announced alongside its name change, but Rainbow Six Extraction was delayed only a month later.

In spite of the later released date, Rainbow Six Extraction's development process appears to be progressing better than before - seeing as Ubisoft has shown-off more of the new game's content. Last August, the studio released a gameplay overview video, which showcased the game’s maps, operators, enemies, weapons, gadgets, and mission types. Additionally, this past September saw the unveiling of the Rainbow Six Extraction story trailer, which gave people a better look at the game's sci-fi world.

In a recent press release, Ubisoft announced Rainbow Six Extraction will feature a large amount of free post-launch content as part of its endgame, which includes several regularly changing activities and events. The first of these additions is a weekly challenge mode dubbed Maelstrom Protocol. The mode will see players navigate through a map consisting of nine subzones that become more difficult as they progress through each one. Players will then be able to choose to either extract and bank the points they’ve collected so far, or attempt to progress further into the map. Maelstrom Protocol will feature five classes - Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond - and participants are placed into each class depending on how many points they earn. Players will also receive rewards depending on their rank, including special headgear and REACT Credits.

Why Rainbow Six Extraction Looks So Dated

Apart from Maelstrom Protocol, Rainbow Six Extraction players can also participate in other post-launch activities, including Crisis Events and Assignments. The latter are weekly modes that feature special gameplay modifiers that make everything more challenging for players. Crisis Events are limited-time themed events that may reveal more of the game’s lore, as well as introduce new operators or enemies into the game. These events will also reward players with exclusive items and cosmetics. Players will be able to start taking part in the weekly Maelstrom Protocol challenges and Assignments when the game launches; and the first Crisis Event, called Spillover, is set to launch soon after. The event will charge players with destroying evolved versions of the Sprawl while fighting off hordes of Rainbow Six Extraction's symbiote-like Archaeans at the same time.

Alongside announcing its post-launch content, Ubisoft also explained Rainbow Six Extraction will officially release on January 20, 2022, with full crossplay, cross-save, and cross-progression on all platforms the game is available in, including Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Stadia and PC.

With the release of Rainbow Six Extraction only a couple of months away, Ubisoft is understandably ramping up its announcements and reveals for the upcoming title. The company recently confirmed that those who purchase any of the game’s different editions will also receive Rainbow Six Extraction buddy tokens - which players can give away to their friends, allowing them to try out the game for free for a limited time. Given the intriguing content revealed thus far, Rainbow Six Extraction will likely be worth the try.
