Upon revealing the new price and January 2022 due date for Rainbow Six Extraction, Ubisoft also shared details about the all-new Buddy Pass system that will allow friends to join the fun for free. Originally announced as Rainbow Six Quarantine in an E3 2019 teaser trailer, Rainbow Six Extraction's full reveal took center stage during this year's digital E3 event.

Developer Ubisoft Montréal derived Extraction's science fiction premise from the Outbreak event, which debuted during the Operation Chimera expansion for Rainbow Six Siege. Suffice it to say, alien creatures and the like mark an unusual turn for the typically grounded Tom Clancy-branded IP. The insertion of sci-fi elements isn't all that separates Extraction from Siege, either. As opposed to the 2015 title's PvP-focused experience, the new installment positions PvE gameplay at the center of the in-game conflict. Though Ubisoft's initial plans would've seen players jump into the title in September of this year, a release date delay pushed Rainbow Six Extraction to a nebulous January 2022 launch window. And now there's a firmer date attached to the tactical shooter.

The title arrives on January 20, 2022 at the new lower price of $39.99 for the Standard Edition, Meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition, featuring three bonus packs, bears a $49.99 price tag. Both versions of the online title will come with two Buddy Pass tokens, which players can use to invite two friends to play for 14 days even if they don't own the game. Better still, the Buddy Pass will work across "most platforms," Ubisoft noted in a press release. Watch Extraction's latest trailer in the following video:

Pre-orders for Extraction are currently live, offering the Orbital Decay Cosmetic Bundle to all who secure the game ahead of launch. In terms of the experience itself, players can expect Rainbow Six Siege Operators and legacy tech to feature, alongside 12 new maps, four difficulty setting, more than 60 weapons, and an Operator progression system Ubisoft is touting as "deep."

Akin to Siege before it, Rainbow Six Extraction will additionally receive free post-launch support, some of which should come in the form of a weekly endgame challenge mode. Details on this mode and much more should begin to surface as the new title's relatively imminent launch date draws near.
