The Electric Smelter is one of several new machine upgrades that can be built in Raft, but the blueprint needs to be found first. The new electric versions of various machines generally improve the ease with which a task can be completed or the quantity that can be processed. While there's no increase in processing speed, the other improvements are still worthwhile. For example, the Electric Smelter won't produce ingots quicker, but three resources can be added at once, and the regular Smelter has a capacity of one item at a time.

In order to obtain the blueprint for the Electric Smelter, players will need to complete most of the story objectives and reach the third chapter. The blueprint can be found at the second location in chapter three, Temperance. Players will need to solve the laser puzzle and reach the Reactor Room, which is the same area where a new playable character named Shogo can be unlocked in Raft. The blueprint for the Electric Smelter can be found near Shogo in the Reactor Room.

A regular Smelter can be crafted using four Planks, six Dry Bricks, four Scraps, and six Nails, but the upgraded Electric version of this machine requires some rarer materials. To craft the Electric Smelter, players will need 10 Dry Bricks, a Circuit Board, six Metal Ingots, and six Titanium Ingots. Although some of the materials, like Titanium Ingots, can be difficult to find, there are a few ways to speed up the process of gathering enough resources.

Clay and Sand can be collected by searching the ocean floor near islands, and both are needed to craft a Wet Brick. Placing a Wet Brick on the raft will dry it out. It takes five minutes for the Wet Brick to become Dry Brick. Metal Ore can also be found in Raft underwater near islands, then this resource can be turned into Metal Ingots using the Smelter.

To create a Circuit Board, players will need to collect Seaweed underwater and place it in the Smelter to get Vine Goo. Additionally, Copper can be harvested underwater and put in the Smelter for Copper Ingot, and Plastic can be found floating in the ocean or in barrels. Five Plastic, two Copper Ingots, and one Vine Goo are needed to craft the Circuit Board. It should be relatively easy to get the Circuit Board, Dry Bricks, and Metal Ingots for the Electric Smelter, but crafting Titanium Ingots may take a little more time.

Titanium Ore is by far the hardest resource to find in order for the Electric Smelter to be crafted in Raft. The best place to find Titanium Ore is Tangaroa Island because the resource can be collected from the briefcases that randomly spawn inside buildings. Aside from searching Tangaroa Island, Titanium Ore can be more easily found by using a Metal Detector while exploring larger islands. Players only need to find six Titanium Ore for the Electric Smelter. After gathering enough Ore, players can put the materials in a Smelter to get Titanium Ingots. It takes 120 seconds for one Titanium Ingot to be produced, and Planks are needed to fuel the regular Smelter.

The biggest draw for building an Electric Smelter is the elimination of Planks for fuel. Instead of burning through one Plank every few seconds, the Electric Smelter uses a Battery to operate. Batteries are crafted with resources that can be found easily in Raft, and the recently added Wind Turbine can charge four at a time. The Electric Smelter is worth crafting because it uses a Battery instead of Planks, and players will gain two extra slots for processing materials in Raft.
