Lionsgate Releases Trailer for Drama 'Rabbit Hole'

Trailer for Rabbit Hole starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart

Lionsgate recently released the trailer for the drama film, Rabbit Hole. The movie, starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart, revolves around a married couple fighting to keep their relationship together after the tragic death of their child. James Cameron Mitchell directed the film, which also stars Dianne Wiest as Nat, the mother to Nicole Kidman's character.

Rabbit Hole is an adaptation of a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Lindsay-Abaire, and has received rave reviews from the festival circuit. Nicole Kidman's performance in particular has received considerable praise. From the trailer alone, you can tell that the movie deals with some pretty heavy stuff. Of course, that's exactly the kind of thing that Academy members like to see come awards season, so don't be surprised if the movie ends up in the running for multiple Oscars.

Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart in Rabbit Hole

The thought of losing one's child, particularly a young child, is probably the worst thing I can imagine. Watching this two-and-a-half minute trailer, I was filled with empathy for this couple and a deep sadness for their plight. There is a sense of hope throughout the trailer and, presumably, throughout the film, but I suspect that I would still have a hard time watching this movie without getting emotionally overwhelmed.

Does that mean I won't see it? Of course not. What good is a movie if it doesn't engender some kind of emotional response? I've never understood those who scoff at crying over a movie. If you don't allow yourself to become emotionally invested in the characters, then what's the point of watching?

When Lionsgate acquired Rabbit Hole, they knew they had a heavy-hitter on their hands. For their sake, I hope that they market the film well and it finds a wide audience. I admire the director and all of the actors involved in the film, so I know that I will be looking for this movie when it comes to theaters.

Note: We will update this post with an embeddable version of the trailer when it is released.
