Netflix is releasing a Fear Street trilogy based on the books by R. L. Stine, and here's everything to know about the movies' release dates, cast, and story detail. Since 1989, Stine’s Fear Street book series has provided chills and thrills to children as well as young adults. Stine, of course, is best known for his other horror series for young readers: Goosebumps. While Goosebumps has been adapted into feature films, 20th Century Studios had an interest in developing a Fear Street trilogy before the plans moved to Netflix. Leigh Janiak serves as the director for all three movies, which Netflix is celebrating as a summer trilogy event.

Stine's original run of Fear Street lasted ten years between 1989 to 1999 but was revived first in 2005 and again in 2014. While newer installments in the popular series have a much more adult tone, they contain the same elements as the original. Fear Street was marketed towards young adult readers and, more specifically, young women. Each story in the series was set in the fictional town of Shadyside, with the majority of tales taking place in the '80s and '90s.

Netflix's Fear Street movie trilogy will take elements of Stine's haunting novels while reimagining the vision for a set of new twisted tales. The three movies are titled Fear Street Part 1: 1994, Fear Street Part 2: 1978, and Fear Street Part 3: 1666. Here's what viewers can expect from the three-part viewing event.

Like the book series, the Fear Street trilogy will be set in the town of Shadyside, interweaving the dark history of the area as groups of teens fall victim. In Part 1: 1994, the Shadyside teens will begin learning about the town's deadly past as sinister events start ramping up. Part 2: 1978 will travel back to the '70s to follow Camp Nightwing and the rivalry between Shadyside and Sunnyvale before the two towns must come together to figure out a dark mystery. These first two Fear Street installments have R-ratings for bloody violence. Finally, the Fear Street trilogy will come to a close with Part 3: 1666, a movie following a witch-hunt, which ultimately connects to the curse plaguing the teens from 1978 and 1994.
