Introduced in The Order of the Phoenix, Luna Lovegood is one of the most cherished characters in the Harry Potter franchise as her talent and wit transcend her classmates as well as other experienced wizards.

Although she is known to everyone at Hogwarts as "Loony" Lovegood, her knowledge and wisdom definitively help Harry Potter find and destroy the Horcruxes, thus, saving the wizarding world from the threatening darkness of Voldemort. Here are her character-defining statements that showcase her pure heart and insightful judgment.

Luna Saying What Needs To Be Said

"Come, Daddy. Harry Doesn't Want Us To Talk To Him Right Now. He's Just Too Polite To Say It."

Luna's sincere honesty is a large part of her charming character and her timing of telling her father not to disturb Harry with heavy topics at Charlie and Fleur's wedding shows that she understands the appropriate matters of the occasion.

Even though she seems to have awkward interactions with her classmates, this doesn't mean that she isn't observant towards other people's feelings. She never intrudes on anyone's business, but, when necessary, she calls out what needs to be said.

Luna Being Honest About Her Cravings

"Hungry. I Hope There's Pudding."

Though it's a bit of an odd thing to say to people she's just met, Luna doesn't shy away from letting others know what she wants, even if that's to satisfy the craving for her favorite Hogwarts snack.

Rightfully so, Luna is entirely self-aware and doesn't let anyone's thoughts or opinions get to her. Even if Hermoine and Harry give her confused looks, Luna is comfortable being who she is and probably eats as much pudding as she desires.

Luna On Remembering Those That Have Been Lost

"Anyway, My Mum Always Said Things We Lose Have A Way of Coming Back To Us In The End. If Not Always In The Way We Expect."

As she wanders through the hallways of Hogwarts, Luna tells Harry that she had lost all her possessions, but says this intriguing metaphorical statement after Harry had just lost his godfather, Sirius Black.

Her sensitivity towards Harry's grief exemplifies her caring heart as well as the wisdom she beholds when it comes to handling the death of a loved one. She knows that the people she and Harry have lost are not entirely gone, and instead, live within their hearts and memories.

Luna On Owning Her Differences

"You're Just As Sane As I Am."

Probably regarded as one of her most infamous, yet strangest lines in the Harry Potter franchise, Luna is an essential factor in Harry's character growth mostly due to the fact that she understands his isolation and shows him that it's okay to be a little bit different.

Her confidence in seeing things/creatures other people can't reflect her strong sense of self-assurance, something that all Hogwarts students are still trying to find.

Luna Proving Her Intelligence

"Is It True That You Can Produce A Patronus Charm?"

Though it may seem like Luna is just asking a simple question to Harry during the recruitment meeting for Dumbledore's Army, she is simultaneously voicing her knowledge of one of the most powerful charms as well as giving Harry a chance to prove his credibility.

Given the context of the scene, it's apparent that Luna is a great friend and an intelligibly clever witch because she can assess situations and finds ways to construct them to her/others' advantage.

Luna On Regarding Everyone Equally

"Whenever You're Ready, Sir."

Once again, this line is entirely subtle, but holds a lot of weight in regards to Luna's superior traits of character and morality. When trapped in the dungeon beneath the Malfoy's mansion, Dobby comes to the rescue and is instructed to apparate Luna and Olivander to a safe space.

Luna calls Dobby "sir," and this is a really big deal because the elves are considered one of the lowest members of the wizarding society as their sole purpose is to be a slave to a wizard family. However, Luna sees elves as equal, dignified creatures, even if she knew whether Dobby was a free elf or not.

Luna On Her Knowledge Of Muggles

"Muggles Think These Things Keep Evil Away, But They're Wrong."

While at Charlie and Fleur's safe house, Luna spots a seashell wind chime and observes the strange, yet significant piece of decor. Although this line isn't really related to anything Charlie said about the safe house, it's a haunting statement that sets up the dark premise of the last Harry Potter film.

Additionally, this quote showcases Luna's extensive knowledge of Muggles, which reveals her fascination with them but also her blatant criticism towards their superstitious practices.

Luna Performing Magic With Heart

"Expecto Patronum."

The very first time Luna said and practiced the most important charm, under Harry's training, she cast it perfectly. With a hare as her patronus, Luna is an exceptional witch, that learns things fairly quickly, an admirable trait that most Ravenclaws possess.

Unfortunately, Luna's happiest thought which casts her patronus is not revealed, but it is certain that she has no issue in being true to herself and her emotions.

Luna Guessing Voldemort's Plans

"Well If I Were You-Know-Who, I'd Want You To Feel Cut Off From Everyone Else. Because If It's Just You Alone, You're Not As Much Of A Threat."

Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood and a thestral

This line is a crucial moment in the Harry Potter series, not just because she offers a valid perspective, but what she says is actually what is happening to Harry in The Order of the Phoenix. The strong connection between Harry and Voldemort makes him feel distant from everyone, even from his best friends, Ron and Hermione.

Luna uses her strong intuitions to uncover what the Dark Lord's plan may be and demonstrates a great power of foresight, and, whether she knows it or not, it helps Harry understand the grave danger he will have to face.

Luna Possessing Crucial Information On A Horcrux

"Don't You Remember What Cho Said About Rowena Ravenclaw's Diadem? There's Not A Person Alive Who Has Seen It. It's Obvious, Isn't It? You Have To Talk To Someone Who's Dead."

Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem in Harry Potter

In Harry's dire moment of need at the battle of Hogwarts, Luna courageously steps up and tells Harry a major piece of information in order to destroy the last of the Horcruxes. Not only did she mention Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem as a potential Horcrux in the first place, but she also knows how to access it.

Any other Hogwarts student would be just as clueless in regards to finding the diadem, but Luna is comfortably familiar with extraordinary facts and talking/seeing the dead. So it's really no surprise that she was able to use her unique talents to help defeat Voldemort, exemplifying once again that she is an exceptional witch.
