A timeline-revealing title has been unveiled for the upcoming A Quiet Place movie spinoff. The Office star Jon Krasinski shook up the world when in 2018 he released his directorial debut, a horror movie about a family surviving an alien invasion. A Quiet Place would prove a massive hit for Paramount, raking in $341 million at the box office on a budget of just $17 million.

After box office numbers like that it was indeed no surprise when A Quiet Place Part II arrived in 2021, again written and directed by Krasinski. And that movie was itself ultimately a big hit with $297 million taken in at the box office despite being released amid the COVID pandemic. But the Quiet Place franchise is far from finished, as plans have been revealed for A Quiet Place Part III set for release in 2025, as well as a spinoff film set to arrive in 2023.

Plot details about these two A Quiet Place follow-ups are naturally being kept under wraps for the time being. Today at CinemaCon however, Paramount did offer up a couple key pieces of information regarding the highly-anticipated 2023 spinoff film. As reported by Erik Davis of Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is officially titled A Quiet Place: Day One. As if that title didn’t give the fact away, Paramount also confirmed that the movie is a prequel to A Quiet Place.

Audiences of course already got a taste of “day one” of the alien invasion at the center of A Quiet Place. In the prologue of A Quiet Place Part II, the family of survivors from the original film is seen attending a little league game when an asteroid suddenly hurtles toward Earth. The harrowing sequence then goes on to show the chaos that ensued when the alien invaders brought to Earth by the asteroid appeared and began massacring every human in their way. Of course the plot of the original A Quiet Place actually picks up well after these events, showing the Abbott Family surviving in the wilderness by observing a single rule: make as little noise as possible so as not to attract the sound-sensitive alien invaders.

The central “make no noise” gimmick of A Quiet Place was of course a big part of the original movie’s success, and was carried over to the sequel to repeated strong effect. Presumably however, plenty of noise will be made in the spinoff prequel, which promises to once again depict the first day of the aliens’ arrival on Earth. It remains to be seen though if audiences will flock back to the theater to see what may well amount to an extended version of the aforementioned A Quiet Place Part II prologue sequence with different, unfamiliar characters. A Quiet Place has of course been established as a solid horror brand after two movies, but continuing to exploit that brand in creative ways could be tricky given how specific the first film was in laying out its horror movie rules.
