As part of a sweeping announcement of new movie delays, Paramount's A Quiet Place Part III is getting pushed back until late 2023. The horror franchise, created and directed by The Office star, John Krasinski, launched on April 6, 2018, to positive reviews and quickly became a staple of the modern blockbuster horror climate. Using the concept of alien creatures that hunt by sound, A Quiet Place executed a creative auditory concept while crafting a thrilling tale of survival, thereby becoming a massive box office success.

A Quiet Place Part II debuted in theaters on May 28, 2021, maintaining the franchise's late-spring release schedule. It began immediately where its predecessor left off on a cliffhanger ending, continuing the story of Evelyn (Emily Blunt), Regan (Millicent Simmonds), and Marcus Abbott (Noah Jupe) after the death of their father, Lee (Krasinski). Cillian Murphy's Emmett joined the cast as a new protector for the family. Although the sequel generated less box office ticket sales than the first film, A Quiet Place Part II was still the peak seller for pandemic-era movies released in theaters. March 31, 2023, was the initial release date for the franchise's third entry, but that is no longer the case.

Now, Paramount has announced that A Quiet Place Part III will premiere on September 22, 2023. The delay now puts the film nearly five months back of its original date, but it's not the only Paramount project affected by the delays. The studio will also push back several other films, including Blazing Samurai, an untitled Transformers animation, and Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 (the last two by almost a full year each).

Regarding Mission: Impossible, Paramount stated that "delays due to the ongoing pandemic" are the reason for the change. The pandemic is likely also the cause for every other film on the docket getting postponed, something that the A Quiet Place franchise has already fallen victim to with two previous delays of Part II. While Part III's scheduling is far less severe than the two Mission: Impossible sequels, it will now premiere outside of its typical release window and have to compete with the new Salem's Lot and Puss in Boots films tentatively scheduled for September 2023.

Although the horror title is releasing closer to the month of Halloween, it seemed to have found its stride with the summer blockbuster audience. A Quiet Place Part II still raked in then-record box office ticket numbers for Paramount, so there's no telling if a four-month wait will reduce interest for Krasinski's brainchild. On the plus side, Pig's Michael Sarnoski is now helming A Quiet Place Part III following the departure of Jeff Nichols and looks to build on the critical acclaim that his Nicolas Cage-led drama yielded. Fans may have to wait a little longer to see what the world of A Quiet Place looks like without Krasinski's eye behind the camera, but not too much longer.
