A Quiet Place 3 lands the director of the breakout Nicolas Cage film Pig to direct. Released in July 2021, Pig stars Nicolas Cage as a truffle forager whose beloved prized pig is stolen. While the concept and the presence of Nicolas Cage may make the film sound like a joke concept, the film received rave reviews from critics and currently holds a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. Cage was nominated for Best Actor at the Critic's Choice Awards and his name is now being thrown around as a possible contender for Best Actor at the Academy Awards.

2021 also saw the release of A Quiet Place Part II, which had been delayed from its original 2020 release date because of COVID-19, and was one of the first success stories of the pandemic box office as it grossed $160 million domestically and $297 million worldwide. A Quiet Place has proven an incredibly viable property for Paramount Pictures and before the release of the second film, they announced they were developing a spin-off film based on an idea from the series director John Krasinski who will act as a producer with Mud director Jeff Nichols at the helm. However, Nichols dropped out of A Quiet Place 3 in October 2021 but Paramount was still committed to the film and began looking for a new director.

According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures has decided on a director and it is Pig's Michael Sarnoski. Sources to Deadline claim that Krasinski was blown away after watching Pig and put Saroski on the shortlist of directors to take a meeting for the spinoff film. Despite coming on to replace Nichols as director and helm a story from Krasinski, it is reported that Sarnoski's vision for the film was still his own and different from what the first two films had done but gave a pitch that fit the tone of the world that had been created.

While little is currently known about the project, it is confirmed the film is not the third film in the franchise but its own separate story with a new set of characters so stars Krasinski and Emily Blunt are not expected to reprise their roles. A Quiet Place 3 still has its original release date of March 31, 2023, giving Saroski and the studio 13 months to write, shoot, and edit the film before its release. While March 2023 currently has Dungeons & Dragons, Wonka, and John Wick: Chapter 4 slated for release, the popularity of the past two entries in A Quiet Place but the resilience horror films have shown during the pandemic suggest another big hit.

Sarnoski landing the next film in the A Quiet Place series is good news for everyone involved. Sarnoski has landed a high-profile project that if it does well, will give him more clout to pursue other projects be they smaller original ideas like Pig or if he wants to take on bigger franchises. It also helps A Quiet Place as a franchise stands out with having multiple different directors from smaller backgrounds inject their own sense of identity into the series. While not officially confirmed, Krasinski is expected to direct another Quiet Place sequel, but if Paramount Pictures has its way it will not be the last.
