Warning! Spoilers for A Quiet Place Part II below.

The sequel A Quiet Place Part III is shaping up to be a very different movie than its predecessors. A Quiet Place Part II allowed the horror series to expand its universe and action sequences, further developing its post-apocalyptic world. Should the third installment get the greenlight — as many have speculated it will — the movie will need to be even bigger than either of the previous movies in the series.

The first movie A Quiet Place is quiet and contained, focusing on the Abbott family trapped within the confines of their home and hoping to survive the stray monster that breaks into their barriers. But as the Abbotts were thrust into the outside world in A Quiet Place Part II with the knowledge that the feedback from Regan's hearing aids exposes the monsters' vulnerabilities, they became focused on killing as many monsters as possible. The second movie ends with Regan making her way to a functioning radio station in order to broadcast the feedback to the entire region. That sets up A Quiet Place Part III with one distinct goal — wiping out the monsters for good.

Ending an alien monster invasion is a far cry from the simple survival story that the first Quiet Place movie told. Because of that, A Quiet Place Part III will have to completely shift its tone. That means fans can expect something fairly shocking from the next movie — a lot of loud action scenes.

A Quiet Place vs. A Quiet Place II

The first two installments in the Quiet Place series have been subtly building toward an action-packed finale. The first movie ended with the Abbott family finding the tools they need to take down the monsters in the form of Regan's hearing aids. A Quiet Place Part II provided an avenue for the family to share their secret weapon with every survivor in the region — but perhaps most importantly, it showed the Abbotts gaining confidence in their strength and abilities. This was demonstrated the duel sequence after Regan successfully broadcast the feedback from her hearing aids. In the first movie, she and her younger brother Marcus were too scared to take on the monsters. But in A Quiet Place Part II's ending, it's each Abbott child that kills a monster and protects the adult they're with.

Now that the Abbotts have the tools they need to take on the monsters, there's only one place for a Quiet Place Part III to go to — getting rid of the alien monsters once and for all. This implies that the third movie in the series will be a big action movie, which is a major departure from the first two movies. At first glance, this might be concerning. A Quiet Place wowed audiences because it pulled off something completely innovative by filling the silence with so much tension and action. But the Quiet Place series has slowly been preparing its audiences for a world of loud, action-packed sequences. It's a transition that's well-earned through the clever story-telling and world-building that A Quiet Place parts I and II established.
