A Quiet Place Part II leaves the door open for future entries in the franchise, and here are all six possible sequels, spinoffs, and prequels it sets up. The original A Quiet Place somewhat unexpectedly launched a franchise upon its release in 2018. John Krasinski's nearly-silent monster thriller proved to be a massive hit, and Paramount quickly got to work on developing A Quiet Place 2. Krasinski eventually agreed to return to direct a follow-up that once again stars Emily Blunt as Evelyn Abbott, the newly widowed mother of three.
Following extensive delays, A Quiet Place 2's release gave audiences a chance to finally see what happened after the cliffhanger ending to the first film. The sequel opens up more of this fictional universe by introducing new characters, like Cillian Murphy's Emmett, and communities of survivors. But, the core story still revolves around the Abbott family and how they manage to use the discovery that high-frequency sounds harm the aliens to defend themselves from the terrifying creatures. This led Regan Abbott (Millicent Simmonds) to create a radio station that broadcasts this sound to give other survivors a chance to use the weapon against the aliens. Just like the original, though, A Quiet Place 2 ends abruptly and leaves the future of the franchise wide open.
Even before A Quiet Place 2's release, Paramount began developing more movies in this franchise. Jeff Nichols is working on a Quiet Place spinoff, though what form it'll take remains a mystery. There is a chance that future details on the project will reveal A Quiet Place 2 set up the movie. Before such information arrives, though, the sequel still makes several other types of stories possible. Here are all the movies A Quiet Place 2 could set up.
A Quiet Place 3
The clearest movie A Quiet Place 2 sets up is A Quiet Place 3. After starting the movie together, the Abbott family is divided by the end of this film. Regan is off with Emmett on the island that is now broadcasting the high-frequency sound across the radio. She killed the alien that was stalking them and managed to save Emmett's life in the process. Now they are left on the island together and need to find a way to get away safely and return to the abandoned warehouse Emmett previously called home. This home is where Evelyn and Marcus Abbott (Noah Jupe) are with the Abbott baby. Marcus used Regan's broadcast to fend off an attacking monster to save his mother and younger sibling.
A Quiet Place 3 can take this story in any number of directions. It could follow the formula of the first film and have the next installment pick up directly after A Quiet Place 2. This could make the third film partly about the Abbott's finding their way back together and spreading awareness of the broadcast signal. Krasinski already knows what the story will be, but it will be fascinating to see if real-world logistics impact the story at all. Thanks to A Quiet Place 2's delayed release, a significant amount of time will pass between productions. With Simmonds and Jupe aging quickly, the third film might need a time jump to explain why they look a few years older.
Emmett Prequel
The introduction of Emmett is one of A Quiet Place 2's best qualities and achievements. While Cillian Murphy's grief-stricken character is well-positioned to appear in A Quiet Place 3, the movie leaves plenty of room to explore Emmett's life before the events of the most recent film. He is introduced in the sequel's opening sequence, which serves as a flashback to day one of the alien invasion. But viewers don't see what happens to him between when the town scatters from the baseball game and finding the Abbott family more than a year after the invasion began. A Quiet Place 2 does confirm that Emmett's child and wife died and that he knew he was signaling Lee through the fire.
Still, there is a long period of time that Emmett's life can be explored and show why he believes that the people who are left in this world aren't worth saving. Emmett's wife died of natural causes, and the aliens killed their son. His mentality indicates that he's had multiple encounters with people who are still alive and doing whatever it takes to survive. The A Quiet Place franchise has so far focused on survival when it comes to avoiding attracting the aliens, but an Emmett-focused prequel could be a place to have a classic man-vs-man story instead of man-vs-nature and show the darker parts of this new world.
Island Prequel
Another character A Quiet Place 2 briefly featured was Djimon Hounsou as an unnamed man on an island of survivors. Although he died at the hands of the aliens in the sequel's climax, Hounsou and the island could be another great lead/setting combo for a spinoff movie. This character is one of many people on the first boat of humans sent to the island after discovering that the aliens couldn't swim. However, Hounsou's character mentions that the escorting process quickly got out of hand and led to a tragic event where many people died. A spinoff/prequel following this group on the island could be a chance to explore survivor's guilt and debate whether or not they should try to help get other people to this safe haven. Depending on how this is done, the prequel could also lead directly into A Quiet Place 2's ending and show the attack of the alien from some other characters' perspectives.
Marina People
If Paramount is interested in taking a potentially very dark turn with the Quiet Place franchise after the sequel, A Quiet Place 2 introduced a new terrifying group that a spinoff could follow. As Emmett and Regan travel to the island, they attempt to steal a boat from a marina and are surprised to see a young girl there. She is part of a trap planted by a mysterious group of locals who want to abduct them both. It is difficult to tell, but the leader of the bunch is played by Scoot McNairy, who is certainly capable of leading a Quiet Place movie focused on this group. This could be quite disturbing if theories that the people are cannibals prove to be correct. The movie could follow the group's origins and watch them become more despicable as they do whatever they think they must to survive. It wouldn't be the first movie to explore such an idea, but setting it against this backdrop would be a fun twist.
Alien Invasion/Fall of Earth
There is also plenty of room to explore what happened to the world and society at large when the alien invasion first happened. A Quiet Place 2 takes viewers back to the first day that the meteors carrying creatures crashed on Earth. From the first two movies, we know that some aspects of society continued, as newspapers were still being printed. However, it could be fascinating to see what the global response was to Earth's invaders. This could bring governments and armies into the picture and give the Quiet Place franchise a bigger-scaled blockbuster that shows humanity trying to fend off the aliens. This wouldn't end well for the main characters featured, but this could be a place to provide more information on the origins of the aliens and reveal whether or not anyone knew that multiple alien-infested rocks were on a collision course with Earth.
Shanghai Event
If the Quiet Place franchise wants to expand in another way, the opening of A Quiet Place 2 could also set up a spinoff set in Shanghai. Lee Abbott and other locals watch a news report of a meteor crashing in Shanghai before one lands just outside their town. After two movies in the same geographical region, this movie can dramatically alter the setting, characters, and audience. The Quiet Place franchise is well-suited to become an anthology-style series that tells stories worldwide and can even be made in different languages. Moving to China for a spinoff would give Paramount a chance to bolster the franchise's international appeal with a story set in the world's biggest theatrical market. Plus, it'd be an opportunity to focus on a new set of characters and how they deal with A Quiet Place's monsters differently.
