A Quiet Place 2 makes its grand entrance on May 28, and fans will finally learn what becomes to the Abbott family. John Krasinski wrote and directed the sequel, which starts in the wake of his character Lee’s death and explores how his wife and kids must soldier on without him.

Krasinski spoke to Screen Rant about the collaborative effort required to make the film happened, and he addressed the Fantastic Four rumors swirling around him lately.

Emily said that you guys just barely finished the movie recently.

John Krasinski: She gave that away? No, we were done six months ago!

No, I think you can feel that it's a whole lot of departments and a whole lot of people making this movie, in a way that I've never really [felt]. Everybody always says that, that, "There's 300 people working on this movie." There were 300 people making this movie perfect, in my version of this, because I couldn't have done it without these people. And a lot of these departments were finishing - I guess I would say that if this was a painting, it would be still dripping as people were watching it. It was finished really recently - but at the same time, it's because everybody was so intensely passionate about the project.

What was the biggest challenge of developing a sequel for something that I already thought was perfect to begin with?

John Krasinski: The answer is I was with you. I had no intention of doing a sequel because I'm an audience member first, before a director or writer or actor. When I see sequels, a lot of times I do the eye roll, like, "Man, it's just a cash grab studio kind of move, and it's not going to be nearly as good as the first." And I didn't want that to happen, so I just said no.

What happened was I had this organic, tiny idea, and it was about Millie. And the idea was if Millie was the lead of the movie - not just because it's cool to have Millie be the lead in the movie, but - she's actually the continuation of the metaphor in the first movie. So, if the first movie is about that promise you make to your kids that will inevitably be broken, and everybody knows it except your kids - that if you stay close, I can keep you safe forever - when that promises broken, I think that's what growing up really is.

The first movie is a love letter to my kids from me, what I thought it meant to be a parent, this one is a hopeful futuristic dream that I have that my kids will be this courageous, this optimistic, this hopeful in in no matter how dark life gets. That they'd still light a candle and try to soldier on.

John Krasinski in a corn field in A Quiet Place

Last time we talked, I asked about Mr. Fantastic. I think that just blew up over the internet, so I apologize. But also: when you book the role, 10% should go to me.

John Krasinski: Oh, absolutely. Yeah, just write your name down and your address.

But now that there's so much fan art of you as Reed Richards and all this other stuff, how do you feel like when you see it?

John Krasinski: I only just became aware of it recently. Somebody actually just said it today that I'm being drawn like him, which I didn't know. I've seen the fan art, like that guy Bosslogic has done some incredible stuff. I feel indebted to him, because whether or not it happens, at least I can feel like it did. Because I'll just throw that on my wall and say that I did it.

No, it's one of those things where I haven't really been a part of something where the Twitterverse and the internet gets behind me for a role - certainly of that caliber. I love the Marvel movies. I love everything Kevin Feige; the dude's a genius. So, in him I trust. If he wants me to do something like that, I would love it.
