John Krasinski would love to direct A Quiet Place 2, the sequel to last year's smash-hit supernatural-thriller, A Quiet Place, but he hasn't yet made up his mind. A Quiet Place was praised by critics and fans alike, so much so that shortly after its release, Paramount announced a sequel was already in development. The sequel to the post-apocalyptic film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release in May 2020.
A Quiet Place followed the Abbott family and their efforts to survive in a world where sound can get you killed. In this universe, an alien invasion has occurred, and once society recognized that the creatures hunt based off of sound, the survivors all learn to live without making a sound. Similar to Netflix's Bird Box, the Abbotts struggle to survive while also raising a family during the apocalypse. The film's cast included John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds, Cade Woodward, and Leon Russom. Krasinski is working on the script for A Quiet Place 2, but now he has expressed interest in directing the follow-up.

During an interview with The New York Times, Krasinski said he would love to return to direct, but he is still uncertain about returning. He mentions having a small idea that would fit in with the universe the first film created, and how Paramount didn't like the pitches from other writers. He admits that if he is unable to figure out what to do next, then he would like to allow another filmmaker to take the helm. When asked about the sequel Krasinski stated the following:
Paramount asked if I would write it and I’m doing that now, but I’m still thinking about what I want to do next. If I can crack the idea, I would love to direct it again, and if I can’t, I would love to give it to someone else with my fingerprints on it to make sure it’s being taken care of.
In the past, Krasinski has hinted at another family becoming the focus, but whether or not the Abbots will be entirely left out is not yet known. Krasinski was heavily involved with the first film, as he not only co-wrote the screenplay, he also served as director for the movie. A Quiet Place received early buzz from film festivals, and upon release, it managed to take the #1 spot at the box office on multiple occasions. However, if Krasinski's character were to return in the upcoming sequel, it will sadly have to be done in the form of a flashback or hallucination.
An entire universe is waiting to be explored, much like AMC's hit show The Walking Dead. Fans of the first film will have to make it through the year before A Quiet Place 2 releases in theaters, but they can hopefully expect more news regarding the film's process to arrive in order to build hype around the project. If Krasinski does return to direct, then that'll just be another reason to go see the movie once it releases next year.
