The Hulu original series, How I Met Your Father, debuted in January and received mixed reactions from critics and fans alike. Many weren't sure what to make of the How I Met Your Mother gender-swapped reboot led by Lizzie McGuire's Hilary Duff, but eventually, it became such a huge hit that it was renewed for a super-sized second season.

Due to the first season only being 10 episodes long, it was hard to figure out exactly which direction the show was taking and how much they were going to reveal so early on. The season finale left a lot of loose ends that will need to be addressed in the sophomore season, and perhaps even beyond.

How Will Sid and Hannah Manage Long Distance?

Sid and Hannah kissing in HIMYF

Much of season 1 saw Sid (Suraj Sharma), Jesse's best friend and bar owner, navigating a long-distance relationship with his fiance, Hannah (Ashley Reyes). The two initially were planning two weddings, but the stress of the distance and the financial aspect led them to elope on a whim instead.

Though it seemed like Sid and Hannah were truly in love and wanted to get married, there were a lot of external pressures making their relationship difficult. Hannah's fellowship in Los Angeles being extended means they won't be living together, and Sid's unwillingness to move to the west coast could be a recipe for disaster. Only time will tell if their marriage can go (and handle) the distance.

Will There Be More HIMYM Cameos?

How I Met Your Father Robin Scherbatsky Cobie Smulders MacClarens

HIMYM fans were shocked to see a fan-favorite, The Captain (Kyle MacLachlan) in the final two episodes of the first season, but even more surprised when main character Robin (Cobie Smulders) appeared on-screen in the last episode. It was one of the best surprises from HIMYF season 1, according to fans on Reddit.

Robin's appearance confirms that HIMYM and HIMYF take place in the same universe, meaning that more characters could cross paths with Sophie (Hilary Duff) and her friends. If more characters show up, it could lead to a full-blown reunion of the original cast.

Is Sophie's Career Going To Take Off?

Fans watched as Sophie, the female equivalent of Ted Mosby, struggled to find success in her career as a photographer during the first season, trying her hand at different gigs only to be left searching for the "perfect shot." It's unclear what Sophie does exactly to make ends meet and pay for her New York apartment, but her photo of Jesse (Chris Lowell) appearing in an art show was a huge career move for her.

The photo that Sophie took of Jesse still appears to be in her house 30 years in the future, which leads viewers to believe that her photography will take off at some point. If not, it would be interesting to watch her bartend alongside Charlie (Tom Ainsley) to support herself.

Will Charlie Stay In New York?

Shirtless Charlie reaching out in HIMYF

Charlie, arguably the funniest HIMYF character, was introduced as Valentina's (Francia Raisa) new British boyfriend in the pilot episode. Their connection was so strong that he decided to move to New York to be with her, leaving him without money (or his parents' wealth) and on his own for the first time.

Charlie got a job at Sid's and an apartment with Ellen (Tien Tran), though the latter half of the season revealed that he was becoming homesick. Now that he and Valentina have ended their relationship, it's safe to assume that he may move back to Britain to be with his family.

Will Ellen's Good Luck Streak Continue?

Jesse's sister Ellen was the comic relief for much of the first season, seemingly having everything go wrong for her with a smile still on her face.

The last episode, however, saw that her streak of bad luck had ended as she got her dream job and a date with her dream girl. Knowing Ellen, this could set up hilarity in season 2 as she navigates a new job and relationship, and possibly be rewarded with even more good luck coming her way.

Will Charlie and Valentina Get Back Together?

Charlie and Valentina were one of the strongest relationships of the show, only for them to surprisingly break up in the last episode of season 1. Their split was heartbreaking, as Charlie admitted that he never wanted kids after Val imagined their future together.

Since Charlie moved to New York for Val, it's unclear whether or not he'll stay in the States, or how Valentina will cope with the break-up. With such different visions of the future, it seems like the two may not be as compatible as fans once thought, though anything could happen in season 2.

Does Jesse Go On Tour With Meredith?

Jesse's ex-girlfriend and almost fiancée Meredith (Leighton Meester) returned to town in the latter half of the season to inform him of her new album about their relationship. Scarred from the humiliation of their break-up, Jesse was hesitant to reunite with Meredith but decided to hear her out.

When they spent some time together, Meredith revealed that she wanted Jesse to come on tour with her. At first, he said no, due to his budding romance with Sophie, but after that went south it seemed like he may have been considering giving his ex a second chance. Fans are eagerly anticipating what might happen in season 2.

Are Sophie and Ian A Thing Now?

Ian and Sophie out on a date in HIMYF

The pilot episode hinted at Sophie starting a relationship with marine biologist Ian (Daniel Augustin), whom she met on Tinder. After a great first date, Ian revealed that he was heading to Australia on a business trip and was unsure when he'd return.

In the last episode, after breaking things off with Jesse, Sophie was surprised to see Ian at her art show. His trip was cut short after The Captain gave his boats to Becky (Laura Bell Bundy) in the divorce, leaving the possibility for Sophie and Ian to reconnect and give their relationship a shot in season 2.

Who Is The Father?

Future Sophie talks to her son in How I MEt Your Father

In the very first episode, the older version of Sophie (Kim Cattrall) told her son that she met his father on the night in which she first met Jesse, Ian, Sid, Charlie, and Drew (Josh Peck). That narrowed down the possibilities of who the HIMYF father could be, something HIMYM never did during its 9 season run.

While the future is still uncertain as to how long HIMYF will go on for, fans hope that the father will be revealed in a satisfying way. There are many different routes the writers could take to tell the story, and hopefully, it isn't drawn out for too long.
