Quentin Tarantino says his tenth and final film will be an original screenplay. In 2020, the influential and inimitable auteur behind films like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Inglourious Basterds announced plans for his tenth film as a director to be his last. The filmmaker has teased everything from Kill Bill Vol. 3, a Spaghetti Western, and a horror or comedy flick for his "mic drop" movie. At this point, the cinematic mastermind himself doesn't even seem to know what his tenth and final film will be, though it appears he is beginning to make some determinations.

During a recent discussion with film critic Elvis Mitchell (via IndieWire) promoting his new book Cinema Speculation, Tarantino announced that his tenth and final film will be an entirely original work. During the discussion, Tarantino also admitted that the question of his tenth and final film is complicated given the advent of streaming. The director implied that if his tenth film doesn't have a proper theatrical window, it would not truly count as his final feature.

All The Possibilities For Quentin Tarantino's Tenth And Final Film

Tarantino's original screenplay comments do rule out some possibilities for what his tenth and final film could be. This includes an adaptation of Elmore Leonard's noir novel Stick, which Tarantino says he was tempted to adapt after previously adapting Leonard's Rum Punch into his third feature, Jackie Brown, in 1997. Stick did inspire Brad Pitt's stuntman character, Cliff Booth, in Once Upon a Time Hollywood, so Leonard's 1983 novel still managed to find its way into Tarantino's body of work.

The auteur's comments rule out the possibility of going out with some franchise fare, which the filmmaker has frequently floated. He's been attached to an R-rated Star Trek movie, a First Blood remake, and recently revealed interest in an adaptation of Marvel’s Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos, all of which were unlikely to begin with, but have now been officially ruled out by his recent comments. Tarantino specifying his last film will be a wholly original work also seemingly rules out Kill Bill 3, which has long been rumored.

While Tarantino has decided it will be an original screenplay, he's in no hurry to actually make his tenth and final movie. The filmmaker is now an accomplished author with his novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood becoming a New York Times bestselling followed by his nonfiction work, Cinema Speculation. Tarantino also plans to direct a limited series, which will be his next directorial outing. His tenth and final film won't be coming anytime soon, but in the meantime, fans can enjoy the other various works Quentin Tarantino is offering.
