Lizzo has been making headlines since her album Cuz I Love You dropped last spring, but she’s taking the Fab Five of Queer Eye along on the ride in her new video for “Soulmate.” The animated lyric video gives us 3 minutes of colorful, pride themed self love.

Lizzo has always been vocal about embracing who you are and loving it. The 32 year old singer built up a cult following early in her career, and exploded onto the pop scene last year. With singles from her 2019 album Cuz I Love You, like “Juice” and “Tempo” gaining popularity, as well as many people discovering her previously released songs “Truth Hurts” and “Good As Hell,” Lizzo shot to stardom. She earned herself even more fans -- she has 9.1 million followers on Instagram -- with her sense of humor which led to her starring in a few memes. Besides being fun loving and all about self care, Lizzo has always been a big supporter of the LGBTQ community. Her song “Better In Color” celebrates everybody’s differences. The Fab Five became LGBTQ icons in 2018 with the release of Netflix’s Queer Eye. The group is made up of culture expert/therapist Karamo Brown, interior designer Bobby Berk, chef Antoni Porowski, stylist Tan France and hair guru Jonathan Van Ness. The Queer Eye guys travel around the country giving people complete life makeovers and teach self love everywhere they go.

In the “Soulmate” video, Lizzo takes the audience on an animated adventure with the Fab Five to celebrate everyone being their own soulmate. Karamo Brown flashes up on a neon sign at the beginning of the video, throwing the viewer a peace sign while singing along to the first chorus. Then, we see Bobby Berk officiating Lizzo’s wedding to herself. He also appears with neon-multi colored hair, a style we’d love to see him try out in real life. Next, we have Antoni Porowski and Lizzo playing with some adorable animated corgis, an ode to his love of the dogs. Tan France appears next, showing Lizzo around a closet stacked with colorful clothes. And finally, we get a big moment with Jonathan Van Ness; he and Lizzo shimmy as their hair grows to immeasurable lengths and swirls around them in the background.

There are plenty of other Easter eggs in the video. During her corgi scene with Antoni, Lizzo plays the flute, an homage to her famous flute and twerk routine. There is also a line of the song where the word cook is spelled with two avocados as the “o”s; it must be a reference to Antoni’s much discussed avocado grapefruit salad. When Tan takes polaroids of Lizzo in different outfits, they are animations of some of her iconic looks. The Fab Five car also makes an appearance, with a close up of the “FABFIVE” license plate followed by Lizzo checking out her reflection in the back window.

The spirited video ends with Lizzo and the Fab Five dancing together and a shower of multi-colored hearts. If that doesn’t inspire you to love yourself, nothing will.
