Bobby Berk reveals that Queer Eye season 6 contains some of the most emotional stories the Netflix show has seen thus far. The Emmy Award-winning series is returning with a whole new roster of heroes on December 31. This time, the Fab Five, consisting of food and wine expert Antoni Porowski, fashion expert Tan France, culture expert Karamo Brown, grooming expert Jonathan Van Ness, and design expert Bobby are headed to Austin, Texas, to work their life-changing magic on a few people who are in some desperate need of a little post-COVID-19 pandemic TLC.

It's been a minute since Queer Eye fans curled up in a bed with some wine and chocolate to binge their favorite series. Since the show debuted in 2018, the Fab Five successfully shot and aired two seasons every year. To put it lightly, the Fab Five quickly became tired, burnt out and struggled to authentically give each of their heroes the emotional care they deserved. That was until the global pandemic hit and shut down their production in the midst of shooting the premiere episode for season 6. Nonetheless, the time off gave the cast enough time to reset so once they returned to set, they started performing their jobs like it was the debut season again.

In a new interview with Screen Rant, Bobby admits the reset provided room for himself and his fellow cast members to feel something again. "In 2020, we went to do season 6 in Austin and we were just tired, and frankly, kind of emotionless. Having that year off allowed us to really be reminded of what's important and it's that human connection and that's what we do," Bobby said. The design expert added that the time off reminded him that his number one responsibility on the show is to uplift people on a huge platform. "It was really good to feel recharged and refreshed again," he said. "I know I was crying more than ever."

Queer Eye Netflix reboot

While every single season 6 hero was greatly affected by COVID-19, Bobby admits a lot of the emotion actually comes from other stories revolving around lost family members, failing companies, and so much more. This will also be the first season that the Fab Five re-visits a hero they've helped before. According to Bobby, they only had a few scenes left to film when the world went into lockdown so once everyone was vaccinated and tested, they went back to see how she was holding up and how they could further help. "It was great for us to go back and see how what we did for her had an effect on her life and her family. We really can have an effect on people," Bobby said.

Bobby was pretty tight-lipped regarding the specific stories that tugged at his heartstrings this season, but warns fans to get their tissues ready. Now that the cast is rested, it seems like fans will be getting a similar emotional vibe to the freshman season. Regardless, it's safe to say Queer Eye fans could all use a little pick me up from their favorite Fab Five right about now.
