Ridley Scott's Queen & Country Eyeing Sylvia Hoeks For Lead Role

Sylvia Hoeks is being eyed for the lead role in Ridley Scott's comic book adaptation Queen and Country. Coming off his Oscar-nominated drama All the Money in the World, Scott has reportedly lined up a pair of feature film projects. It was recently reported that the director is jumping aboard Disney's The Merlin Saga, based on a series of YA novels by T. A. Barron. A crew for Merlin Saga is reportedly already being put together.

The fast-working Scott's other project, Queen and Country, was also recently announced. Based on a comic book series by Greg Rucka, Queen and Country follows the exploits of Tara Chace, an agent working for a special ops section of British intelligence service MI6. Fox first optioned Rucka's books in 2007 and in 2013 tried to get a movie version going with Ellen Page attached to the lead role, but that effort fell through.

But Queen and Country is now apparently fully back on, and THS exclusively reports that actress Sylvia Hoeks is being eyed for the lead role of super-spy Tara Chace. Described as a "brilliant and emotionally detached woman," Chace was brought up by her father in the Scottish wilderness and was later recruited out of Cambridge to join British intelligence. Her exceptional skills allow her to become a "Minder," a special kind of assassin who takes on the most dangerous of assignments. But as her colleagues begin to die and her superiors betray her, Tara finds herself all alone in Saudi Arabia attempting to take down an entire terrorist cell.

Hoeks previously worked with producer Scott on Blade Runner 2049, the Denis Villeneuve-directed sequel to Scott's own 1982 classic Blade Runner. Hoeks made a large impression in that film playing Luv, the cold-blooded replicant lieutenant of Jared Leto's Niander Wallace. Just from the scene where Luv confronts and ruthlessly dispatches Robin Wright's Joshi, it's easy to see why Scott would have her in mind to play a "brilliant and emotionally detached" assassin involved in a perilous solo mission.

Prior to her striking turn as Luv, Hoeks starred in a number of movies in her native Holland. The actress will next be seen as Camilla Salander alongside Claire Foy's Lisbeth Salander in Fede Alvarez's The Girl in the Spider's Web. She's also reportedly lined up the lead role in a coming biopic of famous 1970s porn actress Sylvia Kristel. Having already proven her ability to command attention playing an ice-cold, brutally efficient supporting character in Blade Runner, Hoeks sounds like she will get a chance to really show her stuff as a lead with similar attributes in Scott's Queen and Country.
