Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton StoryQueen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has expanded the Bridgerton universe and added context to characters' stories which will be crucial in season 3 of Bridgerton. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a prequel to Bridgerton telling the love story of Queen Charlotte and King George. Bridgerton has shown little about their relationship so far and King George is only seen in a few scenes. Queen Charlotte has changed this and given depth to the rulers, as well as giving an insight into King George’s illness and the love that blossomed between the pair regardless.

Available To Stream On Netflix

Queen Charlotte flitted between Charlotte and George as newlyweds and the pair in the Bridgerton era. Lady Danbury and Lady Bridgerton also featured heavily and their lives as young women were shown which finally developed the beloved characters. By including the women of Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte showed a snippet of what had happened after season 2 of Bridgerton while creating new stories as questions about characters' pasts were answered. Queen Charlotte has also created many stories that have become very important for Bridgerton season 3 and will hopefully not be ignored.

10 Queen Charlotte & King George's Love Story Continues

Queen Charlotte finally answered many questions about the relationship between King George and Queen Charlotte. It showed how hard their marriage was in the beginning, and continues to be, but how their love makes it all worth it. King George’s character has been more established now, so it can be expected for him to appear more in season 3. King George has only been shown in Bridgerton when struggling with his mental illness, so season 3 can show both sides of him to enhance the relationship between George and Charlotte. Plus, this will show how Charlotte has grown and learned to understand him.

9 Violet Bridgerton Wants To Find A New Romance

Ruth Gemmell

The older ladies of Bridgerton have only been shown as matchmakers of the Ton or in storylines related to their children. Violet Bridgerton revealed in Queen Charlotte that she is open to romance once again so it is important this is explored in season 3. Violet will not need to be involved with Colin and Penelope’s relationship as heavily as the elder children as theirs develops from their friendship. Therefore, Violet has plenty of opportunities to have her own storyline to find romance and add more dimensions to her character.

8 Eloise & Penelope Are Still Fighting (& It's Big Enough For Violet To Know)

The end of Bridgerton season 2 saw Eloise find out Penelope was Lady Whistledown. After many of the publications had affected Eloise’s family, the pair’s friendship ended badly and they stopped speaking to each other. Violet revealed in Queen Charlotte that Eloise was stomping around the house and was still fighting with Penelope, which was hard because of how close they were, so the fight is evidently even worse as it is bad enough for Violet to know. Eloise and Penelope fighting will be a central story in Bridgerton season 3 and Queen Charlotte has confirmed the severity of it.

7 Eloise Is A Lot Like Young Violet: What That Means For Her Story

Queen Charlotte had some focus on a young Violet before she was “out” to the Ton. Young Violet was shown to love the social side of their life, unlike Eloise, but also showed how defiant she was. Her mother was very against The Great Experiment” in Queen Charlotte, but Violet consistently disagreed with her mother and defied the social norms. Ultimately, this would have had a big impact on the unification of the divided society as Violet’s generation grew up. This defiance and push for social change has been passed down to Eloise and season 3 of Bridgerton will hopefully focus on Eloise’s desire to change social standards for women.

6 Kate and Anthony Are On Their Honeymoon

Kate and Anthony Bridgerton Season 2 Ending

Violet also told Lady Danbury in Queen Charlotte that Kate and Anthony are on their honeymoon after their marriage in season 2 of Bridgerton. Although Kate and Anthony are both returning for season 3, the mention of them being away on their honeymoon raises the question of how heavily they will feature. Both Simon and Daphne will no longer be present in Bridgerton, so it is possible the same will happen to Kate and Anthony as they pass on the baton to Colin and Penelope. However, as Anthony is head of the Bridgerton household, there is an expectation he and Kate will still play large roles in season 3 of Bridgerton.

5 Brimsley and Reynold’s Are Not Together

A new relationship was introduced in Queen Charlotte between Brimsley and Reynolds, the Kings man and the Queens man. It is the first homosexual relationship in the Bridgerton universe and touched lightly on the hardships they would face if they were found out. In Queen Charlotte, Brimsley and Reynolds were shown dancing together before it cut to an older Brimsley dancing on his own, suggesting they are not together. The status of their relationship in Bridgerton was not answered but in an interview with Vulture, Hugh Sachs (older Brimsley) did shed some light on the situation.

Sachs revealed there was a deleted scene where the older versions of Brimsley and Reynolds walked past each other in the halls but did not communicate. Sachs said the moment “wasn’t a toxic moment,” but because being gay was a hangable offense, they were unable to have a life together. Queen Charlotte showed Reynolds' and Brimsley’s belief that their service takes over their lives, and now both characters are more established, season 3 of Bridgerton will be able to answer the important question of what happened to their relationship.

4 The Future Queen Victoria Exists

edward victoria queen charlotte

The Bridgerton universe is a fictitious story based on historical fact and Charlotte and George are based on the real King George and Queen Charlotte of England. At the end of Queen Charlotte, the line of succession is secured when one of Queen Charlotte’s children announces they are expecting a child. This child, in history, will go on to be Queen Victoria.

Bridgerton's next Ton will have to include talk about the Queen’s grandchild which will mean Victoria will be a set character in Bridgerton. Queen Victoria ruled only 24 years after Bridgerton is first set and Eloise’s season is supposed to include a time jump. Therefore, season 3 of Bridgerton may need to establish Victoria as a character now for future seasons where there is a chance she will be ruling. Plus, Queen Charlotte's attention may shift from societal duties to help raising her future heir.

3 Lady Whistledown Is Still Publishing

Lady Whistledown did not feature as heavily in Queen Charlotte as Penelope did not exist when Queen Charlotte and King George were young. However, Queen Charlotte did show Lady Whistledown was still publishing when showing scenes of the Queen in the Bridgerton time period. Despite the fight with Eloise, this shows Penelope is still going strong as Lady Whistledown which will not help their friendship in season 3. Plus, Penelope’s secret identity is likely to become an issue as her and Colin’s relationship develops, and Penelope is unable to hide her Lady Whistledown identity.

2 Queen Charlotte's Children Are Established Characters

Queen Charlotte’s children were rarely mentioned in Bridgerton but Queen Charlotte has established them all as characters. Although Queen Charlotte never matched them together with the Ton’s diamonds in Bridgerton, the events of Queen Charlotte may mean they are all looking for marriage, which would secure the line of succession even more if they have more children. Queen Charlotte has pushed them to marry high society so they may feature in season 3 and in the Ton more often, especially the Prince Regent, who is the technical ruler of England.

Lady Whistledown’s success rides on Penelope’s ability to acquire gossip and Queen Charlotte has shown she is able to retrieve information from inside the Royal Household. Queen Charlotte showed Lady Whistledown reporting on the Princess Royal’s death, which could have been public news, but also on the Queen’s determination to secure an heir. This means Penelope has sources inside the castle. She could be hearing gossip from servants as she has done previously, but Penelope could have a direct source which makes her an even bigger threat to the Queen. This would have to be explored in Bridgerton season 3 as Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has shown how connected Lady Whistledown really is.
