Updates have been announced about Marvel Studios' upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania that solidify Kang the Conqueror as the perfect villain for the Multiverse Saga. The first official trailer for the third film in the Ant-Man trilogy was released on October 24, 2022, revealing that the upcoming project would place Scott Lang, Hope van Dyne, her parents, and Scott's daughter, Cassie, in the quantum realm, battling the super-powerful Kang for the first time. Kang the Conqueror's MCU setup has been relatively quick after a variant was first introduced as He Who Remains in Loki, but it seems he's now about to show the true extent of his power.

Both Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp released after huge Avengers crossover films (Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War, respectively), acting as a come-down from the adrenaline rush of seeing the MCU's Avengers fight major villains. However, new information revealed by one of Quantumania's producers suggests that this won't be the case for the shrinking hero's next outing in the MCU. Instead, Scott Lang's antics in the quantum realm could actually see the hero in some real danger, and the events of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania are likely to completely change the shape of the Multiverse Saga.

Kang The Conqueror Will Make Ant-Man 3 A Darker Film

Kang in Ant-Man 3

In a recent interview with Total Film magazine (via Games Radar), Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania producer Stephen Broussard revealed that the upcoming Marvel Studios project wouldn't be the typical palate-cleanser that the Ant-Man films have become known for. Instead, Quantumania will be "big and feel central to the future of the MCU," bringing the stakes up to the higher standard of an Avengers-level project and setting the stage for the MCU going forward. This suggests that the inclusion of a more villainous Kang the Conqueror than previously seen in Loki will make Quantumania a much darker film.

That's no surprise, either, since Kang is being set up as the overarching villain for the whole of the Multiverse Saga, culminating in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, which are set to include some epic battles. The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer has revealed that there are dark forces at play in the quantum realm, so trapping the often light-hearted heroes inside will allow for much grittier moments. If Kang the Conqueror has the ability to bring darkness to the usually joyful Ant-Man franchise, there's no doubt he'll be the perfect villain for the MCU's future.

How Will Ant-Man 3 Set Up The MCU’s Future?

Scott and Hope in the Ant-Man 3 trailer

Jonathan Majors first debuted as a variant of Kang the Conqueror in the Loki season 1 finale, but Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will see him portray Kang to a much more powerful and menacing extent. Quantumania's Kang is assumed to be the same on that will face off against the Avengers at the end of the Multiverse Saga. This means that the next Ant-Man project will certainly be a milestone for the MCU, introducing Kang to the Avengers for the first time, and directly setting the stage for The Kang Dynasty.

Quantumania is gearing up to be an Ant-Man adventure unlike the smaller-stakes previous films. Scott and his team might find themselves in real peril at the hands of Kang the Conqueror, who could prove his strength before his next appearance in the MCU. If Broussard's comments are anything to go by, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be one of the most important films of the MCU's Multiverse Saga, and Kang the Conqueror was the perfect choice for its villain.
