This article contains spoilers for Force Works 2020 #3.

Agents of SHIELD's Quake has the hottest trick shot going- triggering a volcanic eruption in order to defeat an enemy. On the small-screen, Quake has been treated as one of the most powerful superheroes on the planet. Her Inhuman powers allow her to generate powerful vibrational waves of energy, and she actually threatened the entire world when her abilities were amplified by a version of the Extremis serum. In one (thankfully averted) timeline, Quake cracked the entire world like an egg.

The comics, too, have generally treated Quake with respect. She successfully took down Wolverine when she made her debut, using her powers to cause his heart to explode within his chest. Since then, while Quake has usually been a secondary character, she's proved herself to be a power player as well as a competent SHIELD team leader. All things considered, this is not a hero you want to get on the wrong side of.

This week's Force Works 2020 #3 illustrates her immense powers. The Force Works team has been assigned to the island of Lingares, offshore South America, but in truth they soon realized they were dealing with an Avengers-scale threat; Ultimo, a robot designed to destroy entire worlds. In Force Works 2020 #3, matters escalate when MODOK successfully merges himself with Ultimo, and prepares to wreak havoc on a scale even he's never dreamed of before. Quake is officially told to destroy the entire island, sacrificing its thousands of inhabitants in order to save millions of lives. She takes a different approach, irritating MODOK and drawing him away from innocents, and then tearing the ground apart beneath his giant feet. This exposes an active lava lake concealed beneath the surface, and MODOK - still new to this powerful new body - is unable to pull himself free. Instead, he plunges into the lava lake, destroyed by its searing temperatures.

Matthew Rosenberg's Force Works 2020 clearly considers Quake one of the most powerful superheroes on the planet, and he's indicated just how potent her skills could be. It's safe to assume the fictional island of Lingares is volcanic, perhaps associated with the Lesser Antilles chain in the Caribbean. In such an environment, Quake's powers are clearly a phenomenal asset. Presumably, she considered destroying the island by taking advantage of Lingares' volcanic nature, triggering an explosive eruption, but instead took a different approach. Note Quake's high degree of situational awareness, given that lava lake seems to have been part of her plan, rather than just a convenient coincidence.

Quake's vibrational powers have always been dangerous - she tends to blast them out in devastating waves of energy - but Rosenberg has shown her taking full advantage of the ground beneath her feet. It's fascinating to imagine just how dangerous Quake could be if she ever truly decided to cut loose; the ability to trigger explosive eruptions, to level entire islands, or to use lava lakes as a weapon is quite an impressive extension of her powerset. Hopefully, Marvel will soon give this Agents of SHIELD star the opportunity to show more of her growing abilities.
