Like many a Marvel-Netflix series before it, The Punisher will feature a hallway fight scene. The street-level heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have had their fair share of cosmic encounters and otherworldly drama, but at their heart they've always remained more grounded than the average Avenger. It was this mindset that went into crafting the Netflix corner of the MCU, which grounded Daredevil and its subsequent series in a gritty realism that Marvel's more family-friendly films couldn't hope to match.
With more license than the movies, the Marvel-Netflix shows have been able to tackle social issues and brutality with equal aplomb. Aside from the narrative boon this has afforded shows like Jessica Jones, the action and fight sequences of these series have been some of the best in the genre. Daredevil set the tone early with its episode 2 hallway fight scene, which blended stellar camera work and choreography with a sense of reality as the character grew physically exhausted from the battle. Season 2 upped the ante by throwing Frank Castle and the Dogs of Hell into the mix. Naturally, The Punisher will be putting its own spin on things.
The Punisher Twitter posted a clip from the upcoming series, showing Castle fight off a pair of cops in a stairwell (see the video below). Like Daredevil, the realism of the fight is apparent, but that doesn't take away from the complexity of the choreography.

It's no surprise to see the Punisher battling the cops considering his typical M.O. of violent criminal activity. Castle has always been a paradoxical character, punishing law-breakers by doing the same himself. What's more, but The Punisher will see the character go up against governmental and military corruption, so a few beat cops will be small potatoes.
The tease of the spin on the hallway fight will also honor one of Castle's biggest scenes in Daredevil season 2. While he was only on the periphery of the Dogs of Hell battle, Frank got his own version of a close-quarters brawl during his bloody and brutal prison sequence. The fight hinted at in the new clip will likely be a lot less violent, but it looks to be just as innovative as previous scenes.
Though Marvel and Netflix can't keep going to the same well, there are bound to be more variations on these types of fights in the future. Not every show has had one, but The Defenders cashed in on the concept just a few months ago. Luckily, the familiarity will allow new writers and directors to innovate on the format while still capturing what people loved about the first hallway fight in Daredevil. Hopefully, The Punisher will put its own unique spin on things.
The Punisher premieres Friday, November 17 on Netflix. Premiere dates for the new seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist have not yet been announced.
