It has been a good year for Marvel to introduce brand new characters that would eventually spin-off to have their own properties. Both Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) debuted in Captain America: Civil War ahead of their solo films in 2018 and 2017 respectively. On the Netflix side of the MCU, Daredevil season 2 introduced the world to Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. Punisher was one of the most talked about aspects of the season and viewers wanted to see more of the character as soon as possible.
This is why it was no surprise when Netflix and Marvel announced that a full season of The Punisher had been ordered by the streaming service. At the time there was no indication to when the series would debut, but rumors indicated a possible 2017 release. That seems more likely with Bernthal properly starting production on the series - and now, he has been joined by a familiar Daredevil cast member on-set.
FirstLook (via MCUExchange) has released new photos from the set of The Punisher that show Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role as Karen Page for the spin-off series. The photos only show a conversation between the two, where Page could potentially be giving Castle necessary intel. It is unclear if this is simply a cameo or the beginning of a more prominent role in the series for Page. Check out the photos at the link below.
Karen and Frank developed a very close relationship over the course of season 2 of Daredevil, so it should not be a shock to see her be one of potentially many familiar faces making an appearance on the show. Karen was the one that went to bat for Frank and tried to prove his innocence, which led to Frank having to save her life. The two seemed to develop a strong connection that should continue here, and should solidify the timeline of the series for anybody still wondering.
It is is interesting that Karen could be off on her own. Nelson & Murdock split after numerous disagreements, but the last scene we saw with her was Matt revealing his alternate life to her. There has been no indication to how well or not she reacted to that reveal, but fans could find that out here depending on the release schedule.
Since The Punisher is already filming, it will likely come out before The Defenders; although the team up could hypothetically wrap first since it is not a full season (unlike The Punisher). Woll has not been confirmed to appear in The Defenders, so either way this could be the next chance viewers have to see the character.
Daredevil season 1 & 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are now available on Netflix. Iron Fist season 1 arrives on March 17th, 2017. The Defenders arrives in 2017. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, The Punisher and Daredevil season 3 have not yet been announced.
