The Punisher Season 2 Casts Annette O'Toole & Corbin Bernsen

Jon Bernthal in Marvel's The Punisher Netflix

Season 2 of Marvel and Netflix's The Punisher has added Corbin Bernsen and Annette O'Toole as a wealthy and powerful couple that may run afoul of Frank Castle. When it comes to Marvel's upcoming slate of Netflix shows, The Punisher is the farthest out. The Luke Cage season 2 trailer just dropped, teasing the Hero of Harlem versus Bushmaster when the show returns next month. Beyond that, Daredevil will be back for its third season sometime later this year, likely in the November slot that The Punisher filled last year.

As Netflix hasn't begun releasing four Marvel shows a year, fans of the rest of the street-level universe will have to wait until 2019. Iron Fist season 2 wrapped filming this week, meaning the show is primed for an early 2019 release. It should be followed a few months later by The Punisher and its second season - though no one quite knows if a third series will arrive next year. So while there's still a few more shows to come before The Punisher returns, information about the new season is starting to come in at a steady pace.

Marvel announced today that Corbin Bernsen and Annette O'Toole have both joined the second season of The Punisher, playing a husband and wife who seem destined to butt heads with Frank Castle in the new batch of episodes.

• Corbin Bernsen (American Gods, Psych) will play the role of ‘Anderson Schultz,’ an extremely wealthy man who’s grown accustomed to getting his way. His power and legacy are of prime importance, and he’ll implement less-than legal means to further those ends.

• Annette O’Toole (Cat People, Smallville) has been cast as ‘Eliza Schultz,’ a conniving, wealthy woman, cut from the same manipulative cloth as her husband, Anderson.

Bernsen and O'Toole both have a long career, so Marvel have once again added some prestige to one of their projects. Bernsen is perhaps best known to modern audiences as Henry Spencer, the father to the main character on USA's Psych. He also recently played an updated take on Vulcan for American Gods, though he won't be returning to that series after what happened to him. O'Toole, meanwhile, is perhaps best known to comic fans as Martha Kent on DC's long-running Smallville.

The description of the Schultzs seems to hint they'll be at odds with Castle and may represent a new threat for him and his crime-busting agenda. If that's the case, they'll join returning cast member Ben Barnes (Westworld) who transformed into Jigsaw at the end of last season. Amber Rose Revah (Dinah Madani) and Jason R. Moore (Curtis 'Micro' Hoyle) will also be back, along with some new cast members.

Supergirl's Floriana Lima joined The Punisher recently alongside two other actors. Though it's not yet clear how everyone will fit into the plot, the addition of Giorgia Whigham as Amy Bendix hints that The Punisher will adapt the 'Suicide Run' arc from the comics. That saw Castle presumed dead in New York and heading out to a rural town where he encounters a new batch of characters. With more info coming in regarding the series, hopefully we'll know more about the plot soon.
