Ads for PUBG wallhacks and ESP hacks have been appearing as advertisements before legitimate videos focused on the game on YouTube, and pro players and content creators are not happy about being associated with hackers and cheaters against their will. While YouTube has stated it is looking into this issue, it's confusing how ads for PUBG hacks were approved to begin with, and it once again calls into question the extreme levels of hands-off automation that have come to define the platform.

Hacking in video games has been pretty common with no game, no matter how simple, going untouched. Hackers mainly focus on competitive multiplayer games such as Fortnite or Call of Duty as there are rewards for winning matches, but hacking even reaches party games like Among Us and Fall Guys, where serious competitive scenes are virtually non-existent. Players who lack the skill or the drive to improve their gameplay will resort to hacking which ends up ruining the fun for other players. While hacks aren't normally easy to obtain, YouTube advertisements are giving hacks away from PUGB like candy on Halloween.

Various YouTube content creators, some of which are pro esports players, have taken to Twitter to complain about these unethical advertisements. ChocoTaco, a member of the TSM gaming organization and popular Twitch streamer reported that he had watched a video advertising wallhacks for PUBG on one of his own videos. A YouTuber and Twitch streamer by the name of TheRudeJude posted a screenshot of one of the ads on his videos questioning how people are able to advertise hack on YouTube in the first place. Another content creator by the name of WackyJacky101 stated that he had been receiving messages from his viewers asking why he would advertise hacks on his own videos when the ads were running without his knowledge.

Luckily, WackyJacky101 received a response from the Team YouTube Twitter that stated it would be passing the complaint on to the "right team" for review. They also provided a method to block certain ads from running on his channel and an additional method of reporting an ad. However, it still doesn't answer how an ad like this was able to make it on the platform, to begin with. This is not the first instance in which a YouTube ad promoted harmful content, as Fall Guys had to sent out multiple PSAs earlier this year after a slew of YouTube ads promoted a fake mobile version of the game.

Due to COVID-19, this year has been a tough one for businesses that rely on ad sales. However, YouTube should not sacrifice what morals it has left to ensure additional revenue. PUBG hacks and fake game ads should not be approved if there even is a review process for advertisements. If there isn't maybe YouTube should look into implementing an ad review process so it doesn't repeat mistakes like this in the future.
