Creator Steven Kotanski got his start in the film industry working behind-the-scenes in creature and makeup effects. As a collaborator with the now-defunct Canadian production company, Astron-6, Kotanski directed modern cult classics such as Manborg and The Void. In 2020, Steve Kotansky and his VFX team outdid themselves with both monster and prosthetic effects that are positively out of this world.

A delightfully gruesome fusion of tokusatsu-style entertainment like Power Rangers, professional wrestling, and a G.W.A.R concert, Psycho Goreman pastiches the innocence of 90s after-school programming with a hysterically brutal twist. Aside from the human child, Mimi, who nicknames the Archduke of Nightmares as "Psycho Goreman" (or "PG" for short), these are the most horrifying creatures featured in this retro monster mash.

Queen Obelisk

Paladins of Obsidian

Queen Obelisk bears a nostalgic similitude to spooky Power Ranger monsters as the humanoid graveyard. Boggy and earthlike in appearance, the matriarchal necromancer of the Cemetarium Collective is a force of nature armed with tombstone projectiles.

A member of the Paladins Obsidian, the resistance group assembled by the Archduke of Nightmares, Queen Obelisk, along with the rest of the faction, traitourously side with the Templars to overthrow their forenamed leader a.k.a. Psycho Goreman. PG eventually puts the walking cemetery to rest by removing a rose from her chest. As the queen disintegrates to her death, the eponymous alien overlord shows decorum to her highness with a flower.

Darkscream

After the Paladins Obsidian struck a deal with the Gigax Council to imprison the Archduke in exchange for their freedom, the intergalactic deathmongers passed around the role of leader until it was bestowed upon Darkscream. Adorned with a jagged crown, the deceptive alien asserts his regality by staging a mutiny against the oblivious former leader.

By the long grey hairs on his chin, the chain-wielding Paladin intends to continue his reign over the fifth moon of Gigax. Portrayed by fight choreographer Alex Chung, Darkscream lands a devastating jump spin hook kick that sends PG to his knees. However, the impressive fighter is bested by his past master and is given a proper "warrior's death".

Tube-Man

Interpreting the fundamental workings of the universe, the cosmic resonance analyst nicknamed "Tube-Man" knows not to disrupt the natural order, especially when Psycho Goreman hangs in the balance. Even without pain receptors, the brainy-cranium-in-a-jar still fears the presence of PG in the galaxy.

Voiced by Stuart Wellington and puppeteered by Chris Nash, Tube-Man makes a brief but memorable appearance as a member of the Gigax Council. With his campy 50s sci-fi aesthetic, the grimacing alien-mech hybrid is surprisingly meek and vulnerable despite having congenital insensitivity to pain. After a kaiju-sized PG takes over Earth by the film's conclusion, the Gigaxian planetary alliance debates killing themselves with Tube-Man being the first to volunteer.

Witchmaster

Equipped with an enchanted staff that harnesses the power of a shrunken head, the Eldritichian nightmare known as "Witchmaster" joins the Paladins Obsidian in their mission to destroy the Archduke. Hailing from the distant Tokusatsu system, the cloaked sorceress resembles a deranged version of Rita Repulsa.

Bearing multiple pinkish eyes, Witchmaster (played by Asuka Kurosawa) is by far one of the eeriest creature designs in the movie. In her attempt to magically decapitate Psycho Goreman, the wicked spellcaster winds up beheaded, herself, begging to be spared. While managing to escape PG, the rolling head is no match for dad's 4x4 pickup truck.

Alastair

PG: Psycho Goreman B Horror Movie The Blob

Being crushed on can be an awkward experience. Like any young kid, Alastair just wants to chill out with friends and play video games. Unfortunately, his best friend's little sister commands Psycho Goreman to transform him into a Lovecraftian creature that only she could love.

Turns out, despite looking like a mutated brain with tentacles, Alastair continues to casually go about boyhood without anyone seeming to mind his new appearance, including his parents. Scout Flint is hilarious as the transmutation who would be a tragic character if he weren't so indifferent to his situation too.

Bio-Cop

Based on a fake trailer that appeared at the end of Steven Kotanski's Manborg, actor Rober Homer returns as Bio-Cop for an origin story of how the hapless lawman became a loveable monstrosity. Like Alastair, Officer Vince is another victim of Psycho Goreman's dark magic which turns him into a freakish abomination with a pistol eternally bonded to his flesh.

Officer Vince, however, is not as accepting of his mutant-hood as Alastair. Bio-Cop repeatedly tries to be put out of his misery to no avail. He ultimately receives his wish after being exterminated by PG who gouges his eyes with Witchmaster's severed staff. Cursed to live with this horrible disfigurement, there is a chance Bio-Cop will be resurrected in future Kotanski projects.

Judicator

As legislative head of the Gigax Council, Judicator warns the planetary alliance of impending doom when earthling Mimi obtains the Gem of Praxidike. The bright-colored circuitry that runs through the charcoal-black exterior gives this android its dark, futuristic aesthetic.

Both a Gigax historian and trusted arbiter, Judicator also serves as the film's foreboding narrator. Actor Kenneth Walsh injects the well-spoken automaton of justice with authoritative vocality.

Death Trapper

If Death Trapper contributes anything to the battlefield, it's an endless supply of visceral carnage. The sentient cauldron of body parts traverses the battlegrounds for more corpses to add to its "goulash" of ghoulish proportions.

Melting down the carcass remains into a bloody soup, the ridiculously macabre member of the Paladins Obsidian launches the gore from its arm-cannons. Complimenting its absurd nature, Red Letter Media actor/critic Rich Evans lends his high-pitched voice to the rotten pot.

Pandora

Psycho Goreman still image of Pandora

Pandora swears to rid Pyscho Goreman from the face of the galaxy in her righteous pursuit to cleanse Gigax. As Prime Templar Crusader, the angelic warrior goes to ruthless lengths to enforce strict religious observance.

Alongside her awesome sword and mechanized armor, Pandora has the unnerving ability to possess others through consuming them. In a darkly comedic moment, she violently morphs into a human to the terror of the Gigax Council. Performers Kristen MacCulloch, Roxine Latoya Plummer, and Anna Tierney are the holy trinity that gives the ethereal antagonist life.

Psycho Goreman

Psycho Goreman voiced by Steven Vlahos

Also known as the Archduke of Nightmares, Psycho Goreman is the titular atrocity that deserves a spot in the pantheon of iconic movie monsters. With his borderline-Shakespearean soliloquies, his way with words is only matched by his appetite for vengeance...and hunky boys.

The bulk of the humor transpires from the relationship between the Archduke and the mischievous youngster Mimi who controls the intergalactic warlord with the Gem of Praxidike. Although forced to dress like a cowboy in public, his demonic appearance is a stellar practical achievement for Steven Kotanski's VFX team, most notably when PG treats his opponents to a valiant "warrior's death" by unhinging his jaw and cannibalizing them. The hybrid performance from Actor Matthew Ninaber and voice actor Steven Vlahos give PG his imposing physicality and his poetically sinister tone, respectively.
