Director Steven Kostanski has confirmed he's working on a sequel to comedy-horror Psycho Goreman. The horror writer and director works collaboratively with filmmaker group Astron-6, previously directed Lovecraftian horror The Void. Despite originally due to premiere at last year's canceled South By Southwest, Kostanski's second directorial effort was finally released this January on streaming services and in theatres.

As reported by Dread Central, the director confirms he's working on a follow-up to Psycho Goreman. While offering very little information surrounding a potential sequel, he added that moving forward is proving 'surprisingly complicated.' Kostanski elaborated by saying there are potential hurdles that need crossing before the movie can come to fruition.

“I want to follow [Psycho Goreman] up with something that delivers, and so the more people love the movie and want more from it, the more I’m like ‘Oh shit, I’ve gotta deliver a thing.’ And I’m trying. I’m working on it.” Kostanski continued “It’s surprisingly complicated, trying to get this off the ground."

PG: Psycho Goreman follows the 'Archduke of Nightmares,' a violent alien whose plans to destroy the galaxy are put on hold when he becomes controlled by two young siblings. Like Kostanski's The Void, the film heavily relies on practical effects to bring B-Movie monsters to life. Still, unlike his previous work, the tongue-in-cheek demeanor and funny, sharp writing firmly solidify PG as a comedy-horror rather than a serious outing. The film is also rounded out by fantastic casting, notably Nita-Josee Hanna's first-ever credited as the alien's unwitting master, Mimi.

While it doesn't sound like a sequel to Psycho Goreman is around the corner, Kostanski is interested in following up his excellent B-Movie horror. In the meantime, the director will continue the franchise via a Kickstarter Psycho Goreman comic, an anthology series set during the movie's timeline. At the very least, the latter will give fans something to hold on to until Kostanski works out the kinks with any future sequels to Psycho Goreman.
