Comic Con 2010: Psych Panel Coverage

For the past couple of years the USA dramedy Psych has been rocking Comic-Con 2010 and this year was no exception. The panel wasn't short of stars, as Corbin Bernsen, Kirsten Nelson, Maggie Lawson, Timothy Omundson, Dule Hill and James Roday were all in attendance, as well as creator Steve Franks and producer Kelly Kulchak .

Most of the large public panel was a mix of lame user-generated questions focused mostly on who had the best hair, Roday and Lawson's love life and whether Nelson had a thing for Sage Brocklebank (Buzz McNabb).

It wasn't a total bust though, because the audience of 4000+ was treated to a special Comic-Con video of Roday and Hill being themselves behind the scenes, and then a special live performance of  "Shout" by Tears for Fears frontman Roland Orzabal.

It was the first of many special surprises in store for the lucky people in Ballroom 20.  We were also shown the amazing tap dancing talents of Dule Hill, who is actually a fantastic tap dancer.

The writers opened up about where they plan on taking the characters in this new season and beyond including some bigger guest stars, including Carl Weathers in an upcoming season episode titled "Viagra Falls". The mysterious origin of the beloved pineapple was once again asked and Roday managed to head it off by saying it just happened to be the fruit atop Hill's mini-fridge at the time and he wondered what would have happened if there had been a dragonfruit there instead.

The panel was handled with the same cheeky humor that has made the show one of USA network's most popular entries. Steve Franks said Psych was the longest-running show on USA and with the recent cancellation of Monk, he is correct. That may be why actors like Ally Sheedy and Lost's Nestor Carbonell are willing to do multiple episodes for them. Psych creator Steve Franks, who once worked at the Enchanted Tiki Hut in Disney World, said that Carbonell will play a guy that tries to get between Juliet and Sean. That should make for a great love triangle (I wonder who has more eyeliner on - Lawson or Carbonell).

Steve Franks said he was surprised when he told the network that he wanted to do an episode with Kung Fu and street racing in it and they agreed to it without any push back. "That's when I knew we had made it big as a show," said Franks.
