After Microsoft revealed the Xbox Series S to be priced at just $299, it sent the internet in a frenzy. Never before had a next-gen upgrade been so affordable, and it seemed like many would prefer the Series S over PS5 Digital Edition. However, Sony fans were quick to argue that Xbox had no good first-party exclusives (Even the much-awaited Halo: Infinite has now been pushed to 2021 instead of it being a launch title).

While Sony has had decisively better exclusives for the PS4 compared to what Microsoft released for Xbox One, Xbox Studios have revealed trailers and clips of some promising first-party titles for the Series X and S. Whether these would be enough to win this gen's "console war" is a question that remains to be answered.

PS5 - Demon's Souls

The Demon's Souls remake was officially announced in the Playstation 5 reveal event, and it impressed everyone with its next-gen graphics. The action-RPG was initially released as a PS3 exclusive way back in 2009, and it was this game's success that encouraged FromSoftware to make Dark Souls.'

Demon's Souls follows a hero as he attempts to save the kingdom of Boletaria from a dark being known as the Old One. The game received critical acclaim for its gameplay and combat, with critics calling it "tough but never unfair",  and fans cannot wait to play the next-gen remake.

Xbox Series X - Halo: Infinite

When Microsoft revealed the Halo: Infinite gameplay during its Xbox Games showcase, it received less than stellar reviews. The graphics looked like something from an Xbox 360 game, with many fans drawing comparisons to The Last of Us 2, a PS4 game with way better graphics.

It was reported that outsourcing to external developers leading to development troubles caused the game to be shifted to 2021. Halo is one of the most beloved video game franchises, and fans are still keeping their fingers crossed that the next-gen game will be a worthy sequel to an amazing franchise.

PS5 - Spider-Man: Miles Morales

The expansion to Insomniac's massive hit, Spider-Man, this next-gen sequel features the heroic journey of Miles Morales. Spider-Man's campaign is one of the best PS4 games, and fans have high hopes for Miles Morales as well.

The story takes place one year after the events of Spider-Man. Miles is now a full-fledged superhero, protecting his city from a gang war between the Roxxon corporation and a high-tech criminal army led by the Tinkerer. The gameplay trailer shows off the next-gen graphics of the PS5, and fans can't wait to play it for themselves.

Xbox Series X - State of Decay 3

The next title in the State of Decay franchise was officially announced during the Xbox Games Showcase in July. The franchise has developed a cult following. While there was no gameplay footage, the cinematic trailer was one of the best of all the games shown in the live stream and wowed fans with its amazing graphics.

The cinematic trailer showed a woman scaring away a wolf with a scream, and while stalking the environment with a crossbow, she stumbles upon the same wolf, dead, being eaten by a zombie deer. The game seems pretty cool and is sure to be loved by State of Decay fans.

PS5 - Horizon: Forbidden West

Horizon: Zero Dawn was initially released as a PS4 exclusive in 2017 (and was very recently released on PC), and it managed to amaze fans with its advanced graphics and a vast, exciting open-world. The game follows Aloy, a hunter, in a world controlled by machines, as she sets out on a journey to uncover her past.

Horizon: Forbidden West promises to be a worthy sequel to Zero Dawn, featuring better, next-gen graphics (now with ray-tracing, thanks to the PS5's advanced specs), a bigger open world, and maybe even multiplayer co-op.

Xbox Series X - Avowed

Not much is known about Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG, except that it features magic and a vast-open world set in the fictional land of Eora (the same setting as the Pillars of Eternity franchise), but fans are very excited to play Avowed after Microsoft showed off the cinematic footage in the Xbox Games Showcase.

Although no gameplay was shown, the cinematic footage showed a first-person RPG gameplay, much like The Elder Scrolls. The game seems very reminiscent of Bioshock and Dishonored, with the player wielding a sword in the right hand and magical abilities in the left.

PS5 - Returnal

Sony officially revealed Returnal during the June live stream, and it looks to be a promising psychological horror-thriller game. Players take control of a female pilot who is stranded on an alien planet, as she is trapped in a cycle of awakening and death. The planet also appears to change every time the player dies, featuring a roguelike adventure.

The game is a third-person shooter, with the female astronaut fighting aliens with bleeding-edge sci-fi weaponry and abilities. There was no official release date announcement, but the game will probably be released sometime in 2020. Returnal is definitely one to watch out for.

Xbox Series X - Fable

The upcoming Fable game is confirmed to be a reboot of the beloved Xbox RPG. The game is set in the fictional nation of Albion, set during a time period resembling Medieval Europe. Albion consists of various autonomous, small states and large, lawless lands.

Players play as a simple country boy who is forced into heroism after bandits raid his village and kidnap his sister. The player can undertake side quests along with the main story and must make choices along the way, which will change the perception of other characters in the game.

PS5 - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Rift Apart leads the Ratchet and Clank franchise into the next generation of gaming, as the game features near-instantaneous travel between areas, planets, and worlds (thanks to the PS5's custom Solid State Drive). Players play as Ratchet and his trusty robot sidekick, Clank. Besides Ratchet, players can also play as a female Lombax.

The gameplay demo shows off the amazing capabilities of the PS5, showcasing the impressive ray-tracing and reduced loading time of Rift Apart, allowing for seamless gameplay experience. Fans of the franchise can hardly wait for Ratchet and Clank's new adventure.

Xbox Series X - CrossFireX

The console version of the massively popular CrossFire, CrossFireX looks to be a promising video game, featuring an exhilarating campaign and a free-to-play multiplayer. Remedy, known for games like Control and Alan Wake, will be developing the campaign, with SmileGate Entertainment handling the multiplayer.

CrossFireX was officially announced during the Xbox Games Showcase in July, and the game looks absolutely beautiful, featuring colorful and vibrant explosions and impressive graphics. The game is scheduled as a launch title, and will likely release along with the Series X and Series S on 10th November 2020.
