There is going to be another PlayStation 5 showcase next week, one that might finally reveal the console's ever-elusive price and release date. Sony's next-generation system has been building up a steady stream of hype ever since it was officially unveiled back in June, even as console rival Microsoft ramps up its own efforts to promote the upcoming Xbox Series' dual hardware variations.

One area that Microsoft has the lead on Sony for now is that both price and launch date of the next-gen Xbox are already public knowledge. Sony, on the other hand, has kept such details for the PS5 as closely guarded secrets, despite many leaks and speculations from various retail websites possibly giving them away over the past few months. However, there is yet to be any official word on the PS5’s price and launch date, but it appears that PlayStation is finally going to lift the veil of secrecy during its latest livestream event.

Earlier today, PlayStation’s official Twitter account posted a teaser announcement for a new PlayStation 5 Showcase, which will be streamed on September 16 at 1 PM PT/4 PM ET. A subsequent article on the PlayStation blog elaborates on this upcoming event, revealing that it will clock in at around 40 minutes of footage and feature a multitude of different development studios and exclusive PS5 titles, and it is strongly believed that the console’s launch price and release date will be unveiled during the presentation, as well.

Fans already know what accessories will come with the PS5 when it finally hits store shelves this holiday season thanks to a recent leak of the system's box content. Not only that, but the system could be coming to North America much sooner than the rest of the world - that is, provided players can manage to snag one. Initial PS5 stock will likely be limited at launch due to either the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic crippling production or an effort to stop online scalpers from purchasing the system in bulk and making a fast buck selling it to desperate players for an increased price.

With the 2020 holiday season only a few short months away, it would certainly be in Sony’s best interest to reveal the PlayStation 5’s price and release date sometime soon, especially with Microsoft recently making headlines with its scaled-down, budget-friendly Xbox Series S earlier this week. Still, Sony has always impressed during its PlayStation 5 livestream events in the past, so fans are probably looking forward to finally learning when the system is coming out this Wednesday.
