Sony has revealed the most downloaded games on PlayStation systems in 2020, including the PS4, PS5, and PSVR. Of course, the biggest names all came out on top, with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War being narrowly denied a total victory across the main two platforms in the biggest regions.

2020 saw the release of the PS5, and its release marked Sony's biggest console launch of all time. This doesn't mean that the PS5 is going to dominate Sony's sales for 2020 - far from it, in fact, as the system has had stock shortages since the day pre-orders went live. The PS4 has also seen incredible sales over the years, and it helped PlayStation become the bestselling home console brand of all time, beating out even Nintendo. As such, the bulk of Sony's sales throughout the year will belong to the PS4, and that's unlikely to change for the foreseeable future.

Sony has revealed the most downloaded games of 2020 on the PS4, PS5, and PSVR on the official PlayStation Blog. These include the top tens from both North America and Europe. In terms of the PS5, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Moralesand Assassin's Creed Valhalla took the top three spots in all regions. The higher numbers are jumbled around, but Demon's Souls, Immortals Fenyx Rising, and Watch Dogs: Legion also had good showings.

PS5 Games Most Downloaded 2020

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War took the top spot in North America on the PS4 charts, but it was denied a total victory by FIFA 21 in Europe. This is the power of football games in Europe, as FIFA 20 also took the number two spot. Grand Theft Auto V placed high on both lists, which is surprising, considering it's so old that it originally launched on PS3 and Xbox 360. Grand Theft Auto V is expected to receive PS5 and Xbox Series S/X upgrades this year, so there is a good chance that it will appear on next year's PS5 list.

PS4 Games Most Downloaded 2020

A lot was said about the last-minute changes to the PS5's console exclusives list, with Spider-Man: Miles Morales becoming cross-gen and Demon's Souls being the only buyable exclusive. It turned out not to matter, as Demon's Souls was outsold by Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5, while the latter title didn't even crack the top ten on PS4. It could easily like Sony was made an unwise move with its exclusivity strategy, but the overwhelming demand for PS5s meant that the line-up wasn't that important, especially as many fans were just excited for faster PS4 games through the system's backward compatibility.

The most downloaded games of 2020 on PlayStation platforms are similar to the ones from last year, as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto V also placed highly on the 2019 list. The PS5 is due to receive several exclusives in 2021, but trends seem to suggest that the same stalwart titles will keep dominating the list. The Call of Duty games and the current sports titles will keep selling like hotcakes, while Grand Theft Auto V will keep selling copies until every single-cell organism owns it on multiple platforms.
