Sony may be about to announce lots of new information about the PlayStation 5, with some reports of a retailer leak suggesting that pre-order details and the price could be revealed soon - that is, tomorrow. This would come as a surprise after Sony recently confirmed that it would be putting talk about the future console on hold as it updates fans about its plans for PSVR over the coming days.

There have been constant rumors about the PlayStation 5 in recent months. The lack of real information from Sony about the next-gen console has left a big hole, which has been filled with speculation. Despite a wide array of leaks, the cost of the PlayStation 5 is still unknown. Indications from different industry insiders are that it could range in price from $499 to $599, making it one of the most expensive gaming systems in recent memory.

What Hi-Fi? reports that Sony's on the very cusp of revealing the price of the PlayStation 5 console along with pre-order information. The outlet cites a now deleted tweet from UK video game retailer GAME that hinted more details about the upcoming next-gen console would be revealed on September 9. The message from the Guildford branch of the store revealed that Sony has a scheduled announcement planned for tomorrow about the PlayStation 5. Meanwhile, Express reports that another UK retailer, SimplyGames has emailed users about a possible reveal this week - also slating the info for a September 9 reveal. Notably, the date marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of the original PlayStation console in North America. Screen Rant has reached out to Sony for comment and this post will be updated with any further information.

An alleged Tweet by retailer GAME that suggests Sony will announce PS5 price details on September 9.

If the leaks are true, it would mean Sony is following quick on the heels of Microsoft. The rival tech company officially unveiled the Xbox Series S console for the first time today and announced that the system would cost only $299 at launch, revealing a launch date for the next-gen console of November 10. This newly announced platform will have slightly less impressive specs than the Xbox Series X and function as an all-digital machine with just 512 GB of storage. However, there's still no concrete news on when the more powerful Xbox Series X will launch or what it will cost.

With both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X expected to launch in November, it is strange that neither Microsoft nor Sony has revealed how much the next-gen consoles will cost. Both companies are likely waiting to let the other make the first move, in the hope of being able to undercut and score and early advantage. Of course, time is now running out as there are only a few weeks left until the holiday season. Microsoft has also announced lots of new information about the Xbox Series S today. So Sony will likely have to try and steal back some of that spotlight to stop its competitor from gaining any real traction.

Update: Sony declined to respond when Screen Rant reached out for comment.
