Mark Cerny’s notoriously drab PlayStation 5 presentation from back in March is now a relaxing ASMR (auto sensory meridian response) video to help players drift off to sleep after a long night of gaming. The brilliant yet soft-spoken PS5 architect is known for his calm tone of voice which, while great for discussing hardware specifications, has proven to be quite troublesome when it comes to trying to drum up excitement for the upcoming next-gen console.
This was the case during the “Road To PS5” livestream presentation a couple of months ago, which was originally intended for the 2020 Game Developers Conference before it was canceled due to the currently ongoing coronavirus pandemic. While the stark, matter of fact discussion about the PS5’s graphical capabilities in comparison to past PlayStation consoles proved fascinating for some fans, others who tuned into the livestream expecting an exciting first look at the new system itself were left bored and disappointed by Mark Cerny’s soft-toned monologue about teraflops and ear canals. This was made even worse by the revealed PS5 specifications being regarded as inferior to the Xbox Series X, which in turn had captured players’ attention with its more exciting full-system reveal at The Game Awards in December.
However, it seems that the internet isn’t finished with the divisive PS5 reveal event quite yet, as YouTuber Ruhl_funtime took the liberty of editing Mark Cerny’s “Road To PS5” presentation into a soothing ASMR video shortly after the conference itself, set to appropriately calming music and images of nature as Cerny discusses the upcoming technical horsepower of the newest PlayStation console for 55 minutes straight. Thankfully, excitement for the PS5 has grown considerably since Cerny’s press conference, thanks to the unveiling of the system’s radically different DualSense controller last month spawning a number of amusing PS5 controller memes and recolorings. In addition, rumor has it that the console itself may finally be revealed sometime next month, in an event that is sure to draw more excitement than Cerny’s insightful yet monotonous speech back in March.
While some fans might not have warmed up to his quiet manner of speaking at the “Road To PS5” event, there’s no denying that Mark Cerny is a brilliant mind in the field of technical engineering, and listing to him speak about the PS5’s specifications has a soothing quality to it all the same.
