The release of the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 is set to be a game-changer for the video game industry, and representatives at Sony have confirmed the new PS5 console is still set to launch later this year. This has created a buzz amid gamers who want to stay updated on the latest details about the console’s launch, but are disappointed at the lack of official information.

As 2020 is already almost half over, Sony has been slowly been releasing details about their upcoming next-gen video game console. In addition to the official news the company has confirmed, there have also been leaked reports and theories circling online adding to the excitement. Even though there’s a lot that is still yet to be made public about the new PS5 system, such as the cost or what it looks like, what has been confirmed is only heightening the suspense.

It can be hard keeping up with the latest news, especially since many unconfirmed theories and rumors are floating around the Internet. Luckily, Sony has unveiled an easy way to keep up to date with the latest information about PS5, including when they will finally release the PS5 console.

Sony has launched a page on its website where the public can sign up for updates that will be sent directly to their inbox. This gives gamers an easy and reliable way to get the most recent news about the PS5, directly as Sony releases it for the public. This also means anyone signed up for the notifications will likely be the first to be in-the-know about the PS5’s official release date.

Getting notifications is simple. Users can go to the Sony webpage and input their information in the boxes at the bottom – the website only asks for an email address and date of birth. Sony says this will give the public instant updates concerning the PlayStation 5's release date, the price, and the games that will be available at the PS5’s launch.

Though Sony has not provided a specific release date for the PS5, they have confirmed it will be released this year in time for the holidays. Many people suspect the company will schedule the launch for November to capitalize on the busiest shopping season of the year. The Xbox Series X is also set to come out by this year’s holiday season, meaning the two consoles will be in direct competition with each other. This also means the PS5 release is unlikely to be delayed since Sony will want to maintain a competitive edge with Microsoft.

Earlier this month, it seemed that the release date for the PS5 may have been accidentally leaked – and it appeared to be debuting much earlier than expected. According to Games Radar, on May 12th Resetera user “Much” claimed to have found a listing from Sony Interactive Entertainment on Rikunabi NEXT, an official Japanese job-hunting website, that was requesting help with the “trial purchasing of PlayStation hardware products" and “aiming for optimal QCD of PlayStation for world users.” The part of the listing that sent the Internet into a frenzy specifically read “to create the PlayStation 5 scheduled to be released in October 2020,” seemingly confirming the console would be released in early to mid-fall.

Considering most people have more time on their hands than ever amid quarantine, the company could be anxious to get the PS5 on the market as soon as possible. Sony was quick to respond to the reports, however, and a representative for the company told Japanese gaming outlet Famitsu the date was incorrectly leaked "due to a mistake in the recruitment site.” It’s unclear if the “mistake” is only the fact that the date was leaked or if it’s that the release date itself is entirely wrong.

Registering for PlayStation 5 updates on Sony is the most reliable and fastest way to get official news about the PS5. The only downside is it will likely have gamers refreshing their inbox until they receive confirmation about the console's launch.
