It looks as if Watch Dogs Legion may be a launch title on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, if new reports are to be believed. Players already knew that Watch Dogs Legion, which was previously announced at E3 2019 to release on March 6th, 2020, had been delayed due to Ubisoft's restructuring of their game development process after the poor reception of games like Ghost Recon Breakpoint, but thanks to the ongoing worldwide production problems caused by the current COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic some players (and CEOs) are worried future delays in console manufacturing may be coming soon.

Both Sony and Microsoft have stated that they do not expect the pandemic to impact their planned console releases, and there are some rumors which suggest both companies could be preparing to hold digital showcases to show off their new hardware now that E3 has been cancelled. However, the threat of PS5 and Xbox Series X console delays is still something which many people, including Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, still have to consider when making their plans for the rest of 2020, especially since his company is currently working on multiple titles for these platforms.

In a recent statement to games journalist Jason Schreier for The New York Times (thanks, VGC) the Ubisoft CEO spoke about how remote work was affecting their company's video game production, and said that both console developers had "made it possible for our developers to keep using their dev kits... to continue creating out next-generation console games." VGC additionally notes that "at least one of these titles, Watch Dogs Legion, is currently aiming to debut alongside next-gen consoles, should there be no significant disruption to production."

Ubisoft Delays Watch Dogs Legion Rainbow Six Quarantine

If Microsoft and Sony do decide to push back the release of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, Yves Guillemot said that they would be willing to consider delaying some of the games they have planned, which includes the potential PS5 and Xbox Series X launch title Watch Dogs Legion. This would likely be very disappointing to fans, and Guillemot said that right now they are "in touch with all our partners and if there's a need to adjust in order to do what's best for them and for our players, we will do so."

Watch Dogs originally made a lot of promises, both graphically and mechanically, that the first title in the franchise never really lived up to. The second entry, Watch Dogs 2, proved to be more enjoyable for most fans, but still never reached the heights promised in that first game's trailer. The first delay for Watch Dogs Legion was understood by fans as being necessary to make sure the game's quality matched what players were expecting, but everyone would sure be disappointed if the PS5, Xbox Series X, and all of Ubisoft's games got delayed once again. Hopefully, this won't happen.
