Arguments about which gaming platform is better will never really end, but if there's one thing almost every PC, Xbox, or Switch fanboy will agree on is that the Playstation has some pretty good games in its roster. In a way, consoles have to have good exclusives, as they are probably one of the biggest reasons people buy them in the first place.

Then again, the practice of making a certain video game exclusive to only one platform is looked down upon by many as well, as it leaves out a big number of potential players. But exclusives or not, it's always a great time to own a Playstation, as Sony's dedication to keeping its user base satisfied at all times means there is always a new game or a bunch of new games to look forward to.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

The first game in the series was released back in 2002, and since then Ratchet & Clank has become one of the biggest names when it comes to platform games. The series has maintained a close relationship with the Playstation console over the years.

The 2016 remake was an immensely successful one and after 5 long years (the longest gap between consecutive games in the series) Rift Apart is releasing soon. The titular characters will return obviously, but a new female Lombax will also enter the playing field.

Deathloop

The time loop gimmick is very commonly found in movies, and developer Arkane Studios (the studio behind the Dishonored series) is trying to introduce it to video games. Protagonist Colt is an assassin trying to infiltrate a mysterious island by the name of Blackreef, where an endless party is going on that is on a time loop, that resets and repeats every night.

Multiplayer will allow for players to take on the role of another agent, Julianna, whose purpose is to interfere with Colt's plans and making sure the time loop keeps running.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

One of the most promising PS5 indie games of the year, Kena: Bridge of Spirits revolves around the titular hero Kena, who is a spirit guide that helps departed souls to move on to the afterlife. Players will build their own army as they progress through the game and interact with small spirit creatures called the Rot who will help along their journey.

The Tribeca Film Festival is one of many prestigious film festivals held every year. They have decided to dedicate a separate category for video games from 2021, and Kena will be one of the very few games that will be featured.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes

It would be difficult to talk about great horror games on the Playstation and not bring up Until Dawnand Little Hope comes from the same developer - Supermassive Games. The Dark Pictures Anthology is an ambitious project and is essentially an anthology series of 8 interactive horror games produced under the same banner.

The first game in the series, Man of Medan, released in 2019, followed by Little Hope in 2020, and then the upcoming House of Ashes which tells the story of how a military unit on a mission in Iraq gets tangled with an evil and ancient force.

Stray

There have been games that let the player play as a goose, a hedgehog, a shark, or a goat even, so it is only fair that cats finally get their chance to be under the spotlight. The main playable character in Stray is a lost cat, and the overarching objective of the game will be to guide this stray through a robot-populated city to a destination.

To make things even cooler, the game takes place in a cyberpunk future, and the trailers boast of a colorful setting that is bound to be a visual delight.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Inspired by Japanese mythology (to an extent), Ghostwire: Tokyo will take place in an alternate reality version of Tokyo city where its residents have started to disappear one by one, while supernatural beings have taken their place.

The game is coming from Tango Gameworks, a studio founded by Shinji Mikami, famous for working on the Resident Evil games. The Evil Within series, another renowned name in the world of horror games, was also developed by them. Although the trailers for Ghostwire showed off some scary elements, the game seems to be putting more emphasis on the action and super-powered combat.

Sifu

the main character in Sifu getting ready to fight enemies with Kung-Fu in a hallway

Blasting enemies with alien guns or crazy superpowers is fun and all, but beating them solely through hand-to-hand melee combat is a whole other feeling, which is the sole focus of Sifu. The trailers have shown very little about the plot, but the martial arts-centered combat featured was as if straight out of some kung-fu movie.

As a matter of fact, the iconic hallway fight scene from the classic Korean film Oldboy was virtually recreated in the trailer, and the game shows promise so far, to say the least.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance

playable characters in Dungeons & Dragons Dark Alliance - Drizzt, Catti-brie, Bruenor, and Wulfgar

Dungeons & Dragons is one of the most popular tabletop games on the planet, and although this is far from the first time a video game is being made based on it, Dark Alliance is the latest attempt. Playing with friends is the very essence of D&D, so the game will obviously allow for online multiplayer, and even split-screen local co-op (also known as "couch co-op").

The playable characters will be from the novel series The Legend of Drizzt by author R. A. Salvatore, and the game will be primarily set in the Icewind Dale region in the continent of Faerûn.

Solar Ash

Striking visuals are the crux of the hit indie game Hyper Light Drifter, and coming from the save developer Heart Machine, Solar Ash is shaping up to be something of a spiritual successor with much of the same ambiance.

While HLD was a 2D action RPG, Solar Ash seems to be a full-fledged 3D platformer with an emphasis on fluid movement and action. The game takes place inside a black hole called the Ultravoid, inside which protagonist Ray has dared to venture into to try and save her planet.

Horizon Forbidden West

Guerrilla Games really knocked it out of the park with 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn, one of the best-selling games on the PS4. Post-apocalyptic games are usually grim and depressing, but the world of HZD is a lush, colorful one full of machinery and life that combines sci-fi with biology.

Continuing the story of the adventurer Aloy, Forbidden West will take players to the ruins of California this time, and there are bound to be even more dangerous machine monsters to fight. One of the newest gameplay additions in the sequel will be the opportunity for underwater exploration.
