A developer resume shows that Bluepoint Games, the developer behind the Demon’s Souls remake, is currently working on a new unannounced title for the PlayStation 5. Founded in 2006, Bluepoint is responsible for developing several remasters and remakes of PlayStation titles from previous generations. Before the remake of Demon’s Souls on PS5, the developer released the remake of the PS2 classic, Shadow of the Colossus and the Nathan Drake Collection that remastered the PS3 versions of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception for the PS4.

Bluepoint Games has collaborated with PlayStation in recent years on exclusive remasters of the Uncharted series, Shadow of the Colossus, and Gravity Rush, leading many to believe PlayStation Studios may be poised to acquire the developer. Recent remarks by Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan indicate that PlayStation is looking to acquire more studios in order to bring even more exclusive games to the PS5. Given the relationship Spider-Man: Miles Morales developer Insomniac Games had with PlayStation before being acquired by the company in 2019, Bluepoint following suit wouldn't be an unexpected outcome at this point.

Posted by user Onion00048 on Twitter, the LinkedIn page of chief technology officer Peter Dalton of Bluepoint Games says that the developer is currently working on a new unannounced project. While not explicitly stated that it is for PS5, Bluepoint’s association with PlayStation in recent years suggests that the next game will more than likely end up on the console, potentially as another exclusive. Dalton’s page says he is “working extremely hard to push the bounds of what Bluepoint is capable of,” likely meaning the developer is looking to push the already impressive graphical capabilities of the Bluepoint Engine and further pointing to current-gen development (if not for PC, as well). Previous rumors suggest that the game in question could be a Metal Gear Solid remake, but no information confirms this as at publication time.

Sony’s approach to building its suite of blockbuster titles for PlayStation has resulted in an amalgamation of first-party studios, third-party publishing, and indie studios all preparing content for the PS5 (and PS4). Whether or not that has resulted in the passing over of fresh ideas or sequels to underperforming games is still up for debate, however. The company has said that its approach to new games welcomes experimentation, but recent reports have stated otherwise.

Bluepoint’s success with Demon’s Souls is sure to give the studio ample time to work on its next project. Its next could even be an entirely new IP, something Bluepoint hasn’t done since its first title on the PS3. However, it could also be another remaster or remake of another PlayStation franchise, like the long-neglected Klonoa or SOCOM. Regardless of what the title will be, it will be interesting to see what Bluepoint's next step is.
