Gamers who are looking to get their hands on a free PlayStation 5 can do so by competing in (and winning) Fortnite's upcoming Generations Cup, a tournament exclusive to PlayStation console players. While attempting to snag a PS5 on retail websites may not prove to be fruitful, the top players from around the world will be able to earn one outright by bringing their A-game to the upcoming tournament.

The PS5 launched on November 12 as Sony's fifth and latest home console. Along with the Xbox Series X/S, which launched a few days earlier, customers have struggled to get their hands on these current-gen consoles due to retail site server crashes, limited production and stock, and a never-ending battle with bots and scalpers. As with any new console, the $400-500 price of PS5 is also undoubtedly a factor keeping many on older hardware. While Fortnite's updated graphics look gorgeous on the PS5, it is an experience enjoyed by relatively few so far.

Now, Epic Games is giving PlayStation players a shot to get their hands on a PS5 by proving they are the most worthy Fortnite competitor in their region. The Fortnite developer announced the Generations Cup, which is exclusive to PS4 and PS5 players. The solo tournament will take place on December 18, and the top-placing player for each region will win a free PS5, while all top players will earn a free Kuno Outfit and Kama Back Bling. The tournament will be available in all eight regions: North America East, West, Brazil, Europe, Oceania, Asia, and the Middle East.

While there will only be eight PS5 consoles awarded during the tournament, thousands of players will receive the Indigo Kuno cosmetic set. This exclusive outfit and back bling will be awarded to 6,000 of the top placing teams around the globe. Similar to the Tart Tycoon skin awarded to those who took part in the #FreeFortnite tournament, players won't be able to obtain this skin outside of the tournament making it even more desirable to compete for. However, Epic is notorious for backing out of its exclusive skin promises, so winners will have to wait and see if these outfits remain locked behind skill and not V-Bucks.

Limited edition cosmetics are pretty cool, but a free PS5 is obviously much better. While other Fortnite tournaments have rewarded Victory Royales with large sums of money, the best Fortnite players on PlayStation can secure a PS5 for free by proving they're the best around.
