YouTuber Austin Evans had a chance to unbox the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller. The new controller offers a lot of advantages over its predecessor; one of the biggest selling points is the controller's haptic feedback system, with will improve immersion by responding to events and sound effects in the game. It also promises immersive and responsive trigger resistance.

The PS5 is set to release next month, and fans are very curious about how the next-gen console will fare in the modern video gaming environment. Sony has promised a lot of upgrades for the new tech, especially with regards to loading times, which both Sony and competitor Microsoft have promised will be much, much shorter than they are on the current generation of consoles. But the controller is also a very prominent part of the PS5, and with all the major upgrades Sony has promised, it's clear that the company is very proud of the DualSense.

In order to see whether or not that pride was warranted, YouTuber Austin Evans was sent a preview controller, which he unboxed on YouTube. Evans spent about eleven minutes taking an in-depth look at the controller. He tried hooking it up to an Xbox Series X and a PlayStation 4, and, unsurprisingly, he was unable to get it to work on either platform, though the PS4 did recognize the controller's built-in microphone. Evans was able to get the controller to function on his Android smartphone, and even play Xbox games on it through xCloud. Evans didn't experience the touted haptic feedback function, but he did enjoy the way the controller felt, and the response he got from the triggers. Evans also took the controller apart, revealing sizable rumble motors and a second microphone, which he theorized might be for noise-cancelling purposes.

The PS5 has been on the horizon for months now. Sony's schedule for sharing the new console with fans has been drastically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has cancelled major trade shows like E3. For much of 2020, the PS5 has seemed like a distant vision, an idea of a console that would never come. Thanks to people like Evans, and other fans who've disassembled the DualSense controller, the new hardware feels closer than ever.

There's still a lot about the PlayStation 5 that's up in the air, and not everything about the console is as exciting as this in-depth look at the new controller. It was recently revealed that the console has about 100 GB less storage space than its competitor, the Xbox Series X, which is sure to dampen a lot of fans' enthusiasm for the console. Still, there are a lot of genuinely exciting hardware details, and some pretty impressive launch titles lined up. With a controller like this, the PlayStation 5 has a good chance at being a console to remember.
