The PlayStation 5 DualSense controller has already marked a true design revolution for Sony, yet there’s at least one 3D mockup that looks even better than the real device. This fan concept continues the trend of community-created peripheral designs inspired by the initial reveal of the PS5 controller.

Just recently, a motion designer shared their take on possible features that might be included in DualSense to make it a proper sci-fi piece of machinery. Delivered through a believable 3D render, that designer's vision was focused on what could possibly be hidden behind the controller’s touchpad - which, to the creative mind, looks an awful lot like a hatch of some kind. A short animation by that 3D artist revealed a gun turret placed inside DualSense, and the weaponry looked amazing, though clearly something of an unnecessary feature.

The new concept revealed by Iskander Utebayev is a lot more peaceful, focused on gaming features and possibilities rather than hostility. Shared through an Instagram video by Utebayev, a realistic 3D mockup of the PS5 DualSense reveals a lot of moving and spreading parts of the controller with hidden buttons and a folding screen instead of a regular touchpad. The screen is possibly the most intriguing part of this concept, as it acts as a TV double when surfing through the PlayStation menu. On top of that, the handles of the PS5 DualSense reveal two small touchscreens with sets of additional buttons. The overall look is impressively futuristic, and while the concept is far from reality, it matches the official style of DualSense.

PlayStation fans are excited about the next Sony console, and there are many reasons for that beyond fan art. While the PS5 itself hasn’t been revealed yet, the DualSense controller has already generated enough hype in the community. It’s not just the shocking new design, which has drawn enough attention on its own, but Sony heavily investing in serious hardware innovations, such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. These features will contribute to creating a more responsive gaming experience in PS5 titles. Haptic feedback, for instance, is expected to introduce the sensation of touch to PlayStation video games, allowing users to feel various surfaces through complex vibrations in the DualSense controller.

While Sony will probably leave a few more surprises for later reveals, it’s highly unlikely that the DualSense controller will ever adopt any of the features present in the aforementioned 3D mockup. However, a fully functional touchscreen on a controller could be a great addition to future PlayStation generations, given there would likely be more affordable batteries powerful enough to guarantee hours of autonomous work. Until then, hardware innovations will remain practical and realistic, unlike fans’ ambitious sci-fi concepts.
