A listing for the PlayStation 5 and its accessories shows off what the boxes look like for each piece of gear, and the box for the PS5 DualSense controller charging station reveals that it looks like a miniature PS5. With as much time and effort as Sony says it's put into the development of the DualSense controllers, it's likely that the resemblance was an intentional part of the design
The design for the DualSense controller was revealed in April of this year, and Sony has since shown off various features of the next-gen controller. Most notably, it has haptic feedback capabilities allowing players to feel various sensations when playing through different titles. The controller's triggers can exert varying levels of resistance when performing different activities in-game, and the controller can even base different vibration patterns on in-game sound effects. The DualSense also has a longer battery life compared to the current DualShock 4 and features a rechargeable battery that can be charged using the official DualSense controller charging station.
Thanks to a listing on Amazon, players can get a good look at all of the PS5 accessories, including the DualSense controller charging station. According to the box art for the station, it looks very similar to the design of the PS5 console. The dock starts wider at the top and gets more concave toward the bottom. The black centerpiece is encased by two white fins similar to the PS5. It seems as if the designers for the DualSense charging station were told to make it look like a mini PS5.
With all the thought that went into its design, it's unfortunate that the view of the charging station will likely be obscured by docked controllers, and when it isn't being used, it will be sitting on its back, making it hard to tell that it looks like a PS5. The Amazon listing shows what the charging station looks like while in use, and it looks substantially less like a PS5. However, users can keep the box on the shelf and admire the craftsmanship of the charging station from the correct angle.
This similar design seems like a bit of an Easter egg. Most people will likely buy the dock without looking at the box twice, but others will see the resemblance as a cheeky nod from Sony. There aren't too many pieces of equipment that could be made to look like a PS5 and still be functional, but the DualSense charging station was definitely the right product for the job.
