The PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller will have a longer battery life than the previous DualShock 4. The strikingly different yet still familiar PS5 controller has been making waves ever since it was first revealed to the public back in April, ahead of the release of the console itself sometime this holiday season.

Much of this discussion has to do with the PS5 DualSense controller’s plethora of new and updated features, such as a built-in microphone and haptic feedback that will allow players to feel different sensations based on what is happening during gameplay. It was previously rumored that the new controller would also have a longer-lasting built-in battery than the PS4’s DualShock 4, and now it looks like that aspect of the DualSense has been confirmed.

Video game tester Galaxy666 was able to get their hands on a PS5 DualSense and posted a few images of their session with the new controller on Twitter earlier today. In addition to the pictures, Galaxy666 revealed that the DualSense’s battery has a 1560mA (milliamp Hour) lifespan, which is longer than the PS4 DualShock’s 1000 mAh and sets its playtime at roughly three or four extra hours. They also shared some other details about the DualSense in the comments section, such as its buttons lacking any light-up features and its haptic feedback being “much more pleasant and comfortable” than the DualShock 4’s rumble feedback.

The issue of battery life and replacement has been a significant issue for players ever since controllers first started to go wireless. Both Microsoft and Sony have taken different approaches to their controllers’ batteries, with PlayStation consoles embracing a built-in power supply and Xbox always relying on removable power packs and traditional batteries. Both these philosophies have their merits and drawbacks, such as struggling to find replacement batteries in the case of the Xbox or the need to purchase a whole new controller in the event of a power pack’s final death for PlayStation.

With that in mind, hearing that the PS5 DualSense’s battery will last longer than even the DualShock 4’s impressive lifespan will be great for players who prefer to play with their controllers unplugged. Thanks to both this longer battery life and the PlayStation 5’s trusty USB-C charging port for faster recharges, players shouldn’t have to worry about their controller running out of juice in the middle of a heated gaming session when the console hits store shelves later this year.
