The design of the PlayStation 5 was finally revealed, but players are confused as to whether the console will work on its side or not. Usually, video game consoles give players the option of either keeping them up vertically or turning them on their side, but previous consoles have struggled with working properly in both positions, and some (especially those created by Nintendo) are only ever designed to work one way.

Video game machines can be large, loud pieces of technology, and while some people store their gaming systems in entertainment consoles or on television stands others prefer to keep them on display or at least available for easy access. After the reveal of the Xbox Series X's console design, many people were curious as to whether the blocky, rectangular shape would fit in with their current gaming setup. Now that players know what the PS5 looks like, they're even more confused.

The PS5's console design is sleek, two-toned, and matches their new DualSense PS5 controller design perfectly. However, the curved nature of the console has a lot of people wondering whether they will be able to turn the PS5 on its side or not. Thankfully, it definitely looks as if this is the case, according to official images released by Sony which show the console lying horizontally. Take a look at the PlayStation 5 console below, which is missing the vertical stand pictured in other official releases:

Although it doesn't look like it should be able to at first glance, apparently the PS5 will work just fine when it is laying on its side, which is a good thing considering how many different kinds of video game consoles players are likely to have accumulated over the past couple of years. There are also two different versions of the PS5 available for players to purchase, one which includes an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and one which is completely digital.

Fans have been waiting for the reveal of the PS5 for a long time, and thankfully Sony's PS5 reveal event didn't only showcase the console and its many accessories but also gave fans a look at a number of upcoming PS5 games, including a remake of the FromSoftware title Demon's Souls and a sequel to the much-acclaimed Horizon: Zero Dawn. While there is still no official release date for the PlayStation 5, fans can rest easy knowing that when the holiday 2020 season rolls around they will be able to put their new PS5 console in whatever position they wish.
