In preparation for the PlayStation 5's launch next month, Sony has released information regarding the system's capacities as a total home entertainment system, revealing the entertainment apps available for the system at the PS5's launch. The PS4 currently has over 25 entertainment apps and offers gamers numerous options for watching TV shows and films, listening to music, and more. The PS5 will only have six entertainment apps at launch, but many more are planned, as the system is aiming to be the most fully-rounded entertainment system Sony has yet produced.

Sony's PlayStation consoles have always had larger entertainment purposes in mind ever since the PS2 launched back in 2000, as it functioned not just as a games console but as a DVD player. Similarly, when the PS3 launched in 2006, it doubled as a Blu-ray player, which was one of the reasons the system was more expensive than the Xbox 360. Now, with the PS5, Sony again looks to offer gamers a full entertainment experience.
