Brick-building LEGO fans might soon have a to-scale PlayStation 2 replica to add to their collection if one fan's LEGO Ideas concept is officially approved. LEGO Ideas is a platform where creative builders can pitch their set ideas to be voted for by the public. Amassing enough votes will see the set go through rounds of judging, with a final team of LEGO Group specialists deciding whether or not their concept could one day hit store shelves. LEGO has released a number of gaming-related sets over the years, and Ideas pitches often include video game characters like Kirby reimagined in LEGO.

LEGO continues to release official video game buildables with popular ranges including Minecraft and Super Mario. The company has struck a balance between family-friendly sets for most ages, and more adult-focused sets for collectors that typically include moving parts, a higher brick count, and more detail. Collectors LEGO has extended to the company's gaming range, and last year LEGO released a Nintendo Entertainment System replica, which comes complete with a retro television with on-screen Mario, a game cartridge, and NES gamepads. The set has been a firm favorite for fans of the classic Nintendo console, and its release paves the way for similar LEGO console sets like the NES in the future.

The next LEGO video game console could well be Sony's iconic PS2 if one fan's LEGO Ideas campaign is successful. Designed by RippleDrive, the concept art for the LEGO PlayStation console reveals a nearly to-scale replica of the original PS2 model, complete with opening disc tray and even a DualShock 2 controller, all manufactured from LEGO. RippleDrive explains of their set:

"This model would be an excellent way to celebrate the fond memories the PS2 left in the hearts of many. This could also be an excellent model to study the inner workings of the PS2, or as a perfect gift for those who like video games."

PS2 LEGO Ideas Pitch

The impressive LEGO video game set is packed with details, and if it were to become a reality, would use 1941 pieces for the near-perfect 1:1 scale recreation. As well as including the classic PlayStation symbol on the console, the set features the iconic button symbols on the DualShock, as well as flat pieces of LEGO for the face buttons. According to the designer, the DualShock can be plugged in and out of the console, but the details don't end there. RippleDrive has perfectly recreated the interior of the PS2 as well, including removable inner components and Expansion Bay. The project, uploaded in November, must amass 10,000 votes to be considered by LEGO Review, where, if approved, it could become a reality. Users keen to add the PS2 to their collection can support its creation by voting.

While LEGO Ideas seems like a simple concept, even pitches that make it to the final review stage can still be turned down. A large part of making the PS2 LEGO set a reality would rely on Sony, and whether or not the company would allow its product to be turned into LEGO. Along with this struggle, the sets must also spend time with LEGO engineers to make sure they're safe, compliant, and up to the company standard. There's also over 400 days until RippleDrive's campaign ends, so even if all goes to plan, it could be a long time before the miniature PlayStation is is in the hands of consumers.
